Les crises de l’église régulière parisienne au XVIIIe siècle

Les crises de l’église régulière parisienne au XVIIIe siècle

Author(s): Preston Martin Perluss / Language(s): French Issue: 7/2015

The 18th century was marked by several internal contradictions among Parisian monasteries, which at some point came to a head. Doctrinal conflicts affected monks who sought maintain rigor in their devotional practices; these monks found support among the Jansenist clergy. However, such positions led to repressive measures imposed by the monarchy. Aside from internal splits, successive financial crises left various monasteries without the wherewithal to celebrate funeral masses. Moreover, the enlightened monarchy sought to suppress the least numerous orders and to close understaffed monasteries. Several monasteries, in particular those demonstrating financial sagacity, prospered either through developing rental property in urban areas or revaluating leases on extensive agricultural estates. In general, however, collection of donations and fees for requiem masses dwindled towards the end of the 1780s. Thus a number of factors conspired to weaken the monasteries; a combination of internal and external factors ultimately led to the demise of the religious orders in Revolutionary France.

Measurement and Analysis of Dynamics of Financial Performance and Efficiency of Trade in Serbia Using Iftopsis and Topsis Methods

Author(s): Lukic Radojko / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

Due to the nature of the trade, it is challenging to research the factors of the dynamics of financial performance and trade efficiency in Serbia. With this in mind, this paper measures and analyses the dynamics of financial performance and trade efficiency in Serbia using the IFTOPSI and TOPSIS methods. The results obtained from empirical research show that according to the IFTOPSIS method, the top five years in order include: 2004, 2020, 2015, 2007 and 2017. The worst year is 2006; and according to the TOPSIS method, the top five years in order include: 2020, 2019, 2017, 2018 and 2011. The worst year is 2002. Recently, according to both methods, the financial performance and efficiency of trade in Serbia have improved. This was influenced by: economic climate, inflation, exchange rate, inflow of foreign direct investments, management of human resources, assets, capital, sales and profit, implementation of new business models (multichannel sales, sales of organic products, private label), cost management (for example, costing by activity), customers and product categories. The digitisation of the entire business has a significant role in this. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been mitigated with e-commerce. Adequate control of these and other factors can influence the achievement of the target financial performance and trade efficiency in Serbia.

THE CAPITAL MARKET MATTERS - THE EXPERIENCE OF THE GRAND DUCHY

Author(s): Krasimira Naydenova / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2023

The Bulgarian capital market is not founding its place in the national economy for more than 30 years, and the market infrastructure is far from world standards, at least as far as the central depository is concerned. The government is a major shareholder in CD (Central Depository) and BSE (Bulgarian Stock Exchange) and is not doing enough for their development and integration. The state is also absent as a factor in the development of securities trading. The example of Luxembourg shows that the capital market can be a driver of the national economy and a factor for growth, which is why it should be recognized. The stated goal of the research also sets the limitations in the present study - it is an overview and uses a comparative analysis of indicators for economic development and trading in financial instruments. The analysis shows that government guidance of capital market development can become a major factor for remarkable growth, and this can be achieved by small economies as well.

On Cooperative Housing in Socialist Czechoslovakia, 1959-1970

On Cooperative Housing in Socialist Czechoslovakia, 1959-1970

Author(s): Marta Edith Holečková / Language(s): English Issue: 3-4/2022

Although Czechoslovakia was not excessively damaged by the previous conflict, it faced the same problem as the worse affected European countries – the lack of suitable housing. This trend was both increasing and highly evident throughout the 1950s. A certain breakthrough occured at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, when cooperative housing construction was restored by legal measures and the population became actively involved in solving the “housing problem”. The study briefly reflects on the development of cooperatives in the Czech lands and presents cooperatives as the only possible alternative to the state sector at that time, which attempted to be economically independent despite the planned economy.

A cross-disciplinary analysis of authorial voice in the rhetorical structures of research article abstracts in the fields of linguistics and economics written by native and non- native English speakers

Author(s): ANDRII GALAIDIN,Klaudia Bednárová-Gibová / Language(s): English Issue: 01 (40)/2023

This study aims to offer a cross-disciplinary analysis of authorial voice in the rhetorical structures of research article abstracts in the fields of linguistics and economics written by native and non-na- tive English speakers. The research addresses questions related to the frequency of authorial voice in ab- stracts, the differences between the authorʼs self-mentioning, cross-discipline-wise and cross-culturally, and its influence on the rhetorical structure of abstracts. The study is based on Hylandʼs (2000) five-move model and combines quantitative and qualitative methods. The frequency of the authorʼs self-mentioning across thirty-two abstracts from the two selected fields of knowledge was determined by specifying the distribution of the authorʼs visibility among the moves as well the forms of their visibility. The results of the study showcase the similarities and differences in conveying authorial voice in the corpus and are dis- cussed thoroughly. We found that linguistic abstracts are characterised by a low degree of authorial voice while economic abstracts show a much higher frequency of authorial voice in the form of pronouns. We contend that there is a tendency towards higher authorial visibility among Anglo-American academic writ- ers in comparison with non-native speakers.

Author(s): AlAmadi Doaa / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 4/2023

Its types were multiplied, to the extent that some types became compulsory for people in many jurisdictions around the world. This shows that the issue of insurance is both religiously and legally important. This article discusses Takaful insurance in general, and specializes in the scope of applying Takaful insurance to one type of insurance, which is vehicle insurance. Bearing in mind that vehicle insurance has become obligatory according to the legislation of many countries for its residents. Although this falls under many interests, focus has been placed on a specific angle, which is the view of Islamic law for this type of insurance. Considering that vehicle insurance may be compulsory or optional, or the insured may have two auto insurance policies (compulsory and optional) together. As the jurists of Islamic law found that Takaful insurance is permissible in their agreement at the Islamic Fiqh Academy that was held in Jeddah. The basic difference between the action of the Takaful insurance companies and their counterparts in the commercial insurance companies was clarified in compensating the insured before the third person (the injured) in the event of an accident between the two parties (the insured and the third person) provided that the third person claimed compensation. The action of the insurance fund in the Takaful companies by compensating the insured or by returning their money, given that this insurance fund is owned or liable to the insured, and the return of subscriptions to subscribers from the insurance surplus in the company is without prejudice to the company for this fund, except by legitimate methods approved by Sharia, such as speculation and agency for a known fee, then clarifying what practically some Takaful insurance companies in nowadays.

Wpływ cyberzagrożeń na funkcjonowanie organizacji

Author(s): Michał Tuz / Language(s): English,Polish Issue: 3/2023

The purpose of this article is to examine an organisation's preparedness for internal cyber threats. Every year, more and more sophisticated cybercrimes are being committed and the scale of these incidents is increasing both quantitatively and qualitatively. Increasing amounts of money are being stolen, more and more sensitive information is being acquired and the impact of individual attacks is becoming more severe. Organisations are an increasingly attractive target for cybercriminals. A target both directly and as a starting point for larger attacks. This puts them under immense pressure, especially when it comes to selecting and updating their tools and security practices. The current business landscape means that every organisation is potentially at risk - regardless of size. Re-Establishing Home and Work Boundaries by Pseudo-Commuting Whilst Working from Home

Re-Establishing Home and Work Boundaries by Pseudo-Commuting Whilst Working from Home

Author(s): Michal Beňo / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2023

Over the past decade, modern collaborative tools and technologies have changed the way we think about e-work. Suddenly, this kind of work was not just a perk but a necessity for almost everybody. The pandemic has accelerated the interaction between social life and e-work. E-work has become extremely popular. The purpose of this study is to find out whether "pseudo-commuting" can pave the way to a work-from-home balance and increase productivity. Special attention is paid to the e-workforce, workers who are experienced in choosing their route to work and the place for work and have implemented various post-pandemic routines. Interviews were conducted with eight workers from different European Union countries to collect primary data for this study. On the basis of these data, a pseudo-commute (an imaginary commute) can help re-establish the work-home boundaries. Overall, this means setting boundaries between those two elements by going through, in one’s mind, the thoughts, events and experiences associated with a commute. All respondents noticed a general sense of increased well-being. In short, this modern commuting mode is an opportunity to remix the old commute with new rituals. It creates a feeling of taking back what has been removed by the pandemic. Pseudo-commuting is probably here to stay.Implications for a Central European audience: Pre-pandemic morning routines have a massive impact on physical and mental well-being. Before the pandemic, an average commute was less than 30 minutes. When the workforce is not able to detach from work, there is a risk of exhaustion and burnout. Pseudo-commuting, however, can pave the way to a work-from-home balance and increase productivity. This qualitative study may serve as a tool for remixing the old commute with new rituals in the modern working environment.

Abusive Supervision and Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Moderated Mediation Model of Burnout and Organizational Identity

Abusive Supervision and Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Moderated Mediation Model of Burnout and Organizational Identity

Author(s): Cihangir Gümüştaş,Nilgün Karataş Gümüştaş / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2023

Using the arguments of conservation of resources theory and social identity theory, this study investigates the impact of abusive supervision on organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) through the mediating effect of burnout. Simultaneously, the moderator effect of organizational identity on the relationship between abusive supervision and burnout is examined. The intention here is to examine whether organizational identity would increase the negative effect of abusive supervision on burnout and to test the underlying mechanism by which abusive supervision affects OCB, with the most affected parties. According to this, we aim to contribute to the literature on the potential effects of organizational identity on coping with workplace stressors. Also, this study aims to be contributive in terms of filling the gap in the existing literature due to the limited number of studies examining how and by which mechanisms abusive supervision affects OCB. Using the data collected from 256 full-time employees from hi-tech, banking and manufacturing industries, it is found that burnout fully mediates the relationship between abusive supervision and OCB. Moreover, it is seen that the negative effect of abusive supervision is stronger for employees with higher organizational identification, suggesting that suffering from abusive supervision can be more overwhelming for employees who see their organization as a vital aspect of their identity. According to the study findings, both theoretical and practical implications are discussed.Implications for Central European audience: The present research fills the gaps in the literature by revealing the “black box” that underlies the association between abusive supervision and OCB. Victims of abusive supervision may feel burnt out and possess fewer resources to engage in OCB. To eliminate the negative results of abusive supervision and increase positive work outcomes, organizations should emphasize delivering a code of conduct and organizational culture that stresses proper behaviours within the work environment. Implementing a zero-tolerance to deviant behaviour policy may also improve and generate a positive and deviant behaviour-free work environment.

Telework Perception and Implications during COVID-19 in the Czech Republic

Telework Perception and Implications during COVID-19 in the Czech Republic

Author(s): Jitka Volfová,Kamila Matysová,Diana Maria Vranceanu,Claudia-Elena Țuclea / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2023

The research focuses on the perception and implications of telework during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Czech Republic. The aim of the paper is to prove the validity of an existing theoretical model (presented in Romanian research before COVID-19) for the Czech situation during COVID-19 and draw managerial conclusions. Quantitative primary data were collected via questionnaires and analysed using structural equation modelling, evaluating cause-effect relationships between latent variables in two steps: a structural model (showing latent constructs and paths between them) and an outer model (displaying relationships between each latent construct and the indicators defining it). Ten latent variables were defined, and relationships among them were identified. Thirteen hypotheses were tested, of which seven were accepted. Concerning similarities with the previous study, the present study accepted two hypotheses identically to the previous one, while one hypothesis was accepted only in the Romanian research. Model relevancy was proved. The research contributed to extending current literature findings.Implications for Central European audience: Based on the hypotheses tested, autonomy and homonomy in telework should not be understood as contrary but complementary phenomena; managers should support both. Positive emotions about telework should be cultivated because they contribute to work-life balance and positively affect the intention to work from home. Work-life balance is positively related to the positive perception of the social implications of telework.
