Komponenty eksponujące cechę żeńskości w nazwach stowarzyszeń II Rzeczpospolitej

Komponenty eksponujące cechę żeńskości w nazwach stowarzyszeń II Rzeczpospolitej

Author(s): Marta Karamańska,Ewa Młynarczyk / Language(s): Polish Issue: 14/2019

The material basis of the paper are the names of Polish female associations from the 30s of the 20th century. The analysis involves components used to expose feminine qualities – general names (kobieta, pani, niewiasta – ‘woman, lady’), as well as detailed ones, which were categorised according to the information they contain. These are the elements of the world, which in addition to gender, constitute a basis for communality of the members: social and professional status, educational background, participation in military activities, social activity sphere, or common interests. The material presented in the paper shows that in the Second Polish Republic the need for exposing femininity and emphasising communality was very strong in the names of associations.

THE POST – GENERATIVE PROCESS OF A STYLISTIC PHENOMENON

Author(s): Violeta Bercaru Oneață / Language(s): English Issue: 33/2023

Pure philosophical and pure poetical the more or less brilliant issue of the category in the vision of the Romanian writer Lucian Blaga is endowed with the capability to acquire multitude of new functions – this central point of the research, the category – reverberates also on the metaphorism and on the revelatory metaphor as ontological gift, and is observed in parallel with perspectives of forerunners particularly from the philosophical point of view. The argumentation entails some results concerning the language as special category named Quality of the human mind, alongside with its Poetical Function super-structure.

BIBLICAL SOURCES OF THE BARTOLOMEU VALERIU ANANIA NEW TESTAMENT (1993) TRANSLATION

BIBLICAL SOURCES OF THE BARTOLOMEU VALERIU ANANIA NEW TESTAMENT (1993) TRANSLATION

Author(s): Cătălin Varga / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 33/2023

The article addresses to romanian biblical scholars preoccupied with the history of biblical translations. We search for the biblical sources (editions and critical editions) of „Anania” translation of the Sacred Text in order to establish the dependence of the authorized versions in Europe and America. The most common francophone editions used by translator was the following: La Bible de Jérusalem (Paris, 1973); La Bible. Traduction Oecuménique (Paris, 1978); La Bible. Traduction par Émile Osty (Paris, 1973). We identify La Bible. Traduction Oecuménique (TOB) as the key one. The most common Anglophone editions used by translator was the following: The Holy Bible. King James Authorized Version (Oxford, 1977); The New Oxford Annotated Bible (Oxford, 1977); Good News Bible (New York, 1978) – with the preeminence of KJV edition. These two biblical translations (TOB and KJV) influenced the Romanian translator in his entire process of translating the original Greek text.

O jeziku normativnih akata prve hrvatske tiskare u Hercegovini

Author(s): Irina Budimir / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 9/2023

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of printing in Mostar and the establishment of the Printing House of the Catholic Mission in Herzegovina (Typhographia Missionis Catholicae in Hercegovina) in 1872, under the management of Father Franjo Milićević, this paper aims to present the language of the legislative acts of the time, such as the normative acts of the Printing House. By analysing the so-called first labour tariff (Rules for the Printing House of Father Franjo Milićević in Mostar from 1888), a type of statute (Rules for the Croatian Joint-Stock Printing House in Mostar, 1899) and business reports of the time (Report of Income and Expenses for the Establishment of a Catholic Printing House in Herzegovina, 1873, 1876), the paper presents the linguistic, and especially the lexical, layer as an example of administrative lexicon/terminology, and of the legal and professional terminology used in the printing industry at the time.In terms of language, the publishers respected the Illyrian influence and the norms of the Zagreb School of Philology in all the documents, which has also been confirmed by other linguistic studies on periodicals and textbooks published by the Printing House. Business reports were published immediately after the establishment of the Croatian Printing House, whereas the first labour tariff in Bosnia and Herzegovina ensued after the publication of Glas Hercegovca, a publication that would mark an entire decade of work under the linguistic influence of the Zagreb School of Philology. The Statute (Rules from 1899) was published a year after the release of the first issue of a new publication, Osvit, and the same year coincides with the publication of the grammar of the Croatian Vukovians (Grammar and Stylistics of Croatian or Serbian by Tom Maretić), and Broz’s already established and applied Croatian Normative Guide from 1892.The linguistic characteristics of all the normative acts are only partially different from the language of earlier publications, if one takes into consideration that the new language conception of the Croatian Vukovians had already been adopted and was being applied. With respect to the lexicon, there is an expressed usage of Latinisms as traditional professional terminology. Oriental and Italian loanwords are prominent in reports on business operations and the first labour tariff. In the lexical sense, the rules from 1899 basically confirm the usage of Croatian legal terminology from the codification period it was written in.

Rozmówki polsko-hiszpańskie. Problemy językowe i próby ich przezwyciężenia… podejmowane przez polskich uczestników hiszpańskiej wojny o niepodległość w świetle materiałów wspomnieniowych

Author(s): Magdalena Krzyżostaniak / Language(s): Polish Issue: 21/2021

The article presents selected mechanisms of communication between the Polish participants of the Napoleonic campaign in 1808–1812 and the local population behind the Pyrenees. The sources of information were the memoirs of Polish soldiers fighting on the Iberian Peninsula in the Grande Armée. Even though a significant part of the memoirs focuses on the military aspects of the participation of Poles in the Peninsular War, several do provide a whole spectrum of information about the daily lives of soldiers on foreign ground and many observations regarding the customs of their brothers in arms – mainly the French – as well as the local population. Among the fragments devoted to the non-military aspects of their stay on the Iberian Peninsula, the remarks on the attempts at communication – both verbal and non-verbal – between Poles and Spaniards seem to be particularly interesting. The purpose of this article is to explain why, in many situations, efficient communication could not take place in an intermediary language (French) and how the Polish soldiers dealt with lexical and grammatical structures in the previously unknown Spanish language. It is worth pointing out that language transfer is clearly noticeable – both from the native language of the soldiers (Polish) and from French, which most of Napoleonic soldiers learnt as their first Romance language.

GJUHA STANDARDE SHQIPE DHE E ARDHMJA E SAJ

Author(s): Shefkije Islamaj / Language(s): Albanian Issue: 52/2022

PROF. KOSTAQ CIPO, VIZIONAR I PROCESIT TË FORMIMIT TË SHQIPES LETRARE TË PËRBASHKËT

Author(s): Emil Lafe / Language(s): Albanian Issue: 52/2022

BILINGUALISM, AN IMPERATIVE OF THE ACADEMIC NARRATIVE

BILINGUALISM, AN IMPERATIVE OF THE ACADEMIC NARRATIVE

Author(s): Andrei-Lucian Marian / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 34/2023

The paper explored the topic of bilingualism regarding its conceptual variety, explanatory models, existing forms and educational implications. As it is considered an imperative in various multicultural settings, the study looked to examine the implications of being bilingual, and also to underly the advantages and disadvantages of speaking and understanding two or more languages. Given that previous scientific literature has found both positive and negative effects of bilingualism on the cognitive development of individuals, the authors' aim was to identify the different meanings of bilingualism, and based on this to decipher the mechanisms, determinants, and the facilitating conditions by which different degrees of bilingualism are developed. The current study tried to reveal the different facets of bilingualism, assuming the existence of sometimes contradictory, other times complementary conceptual approaches that make understanding such a phenomenon more challenging.

BARTOLOMEU V. ANANIA BIBLICAL TRANSLATION OF TWO MARIOLOGICAL TEXTS (MATTHEW 1:18A AND 1:25A)

Author(s): Cătălin Varga / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 34/2023

The process of biblical translation could be a very daunting task because of its countless semantic and syntactic variations. This paper begins by discussing the notion of translational equivalence, proposed by philologian Eugene Nida, which underpins all work on morph-syntactic biblical area. Then I apply this scientifical methodology to some mariological biblical texts that involves the supernatural birth of Christ (Matthew 1:18a – translational dilemma of adversative δέ) and perpetual virginity of Mary (Matthew 1:25a – translational dilemma of preposition ἕως). The use of the greek ἕως – english „till” – romanian „până” does not imply that Joseph had marital relations with Mary after the Savior’s birth. In the Bible, this preposition is often used to express a situation that actually continues after the event mentioned (Gen. 8:7; Deut. 34:6; 2Kings 6:23; Matthew 28:20).

Region w przekładzie

Author(s): Katarzyna Sawicka-Mierzyńska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 55/2023

The article consists of two parts. The first contains a summary and an interpretation of the project “New regionalism in literary studies,” initiated in 2012 by Małgorzata Mikołajczak and Elżbieta Rybicka, joined by researchers from, among others, Białystok, Olsztyn, Katowice and Wrocław. The author looks at both external reception, analyzing reviews of the publications that are the aftermath of the New Regionalist conferences, and internal one, i.e. self-diagnoses formulated by its participants. One of the conclusions is the postulate to strengthen interregional comparative studies, which can be helped by the use of tools developed in the field of translation studies, especially in its cultural variety. The second part is devoted to the Belarusian writer from Podlasie, Sokrat Janowicz, who treated translation as a way to overcome the particular determinants of his own work and Belarusian culture.

I rozpięła na szpilce jak motyla… Żydówki-rewolucjonistki w polskiej prozie antysemickiej w pierwszej połowie XX wieku

Author(s): Małgorzata Domagalska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 51/2023

After the revolution of 1905, revolutionary Jewish women began to appear among the heroines typical of the antisemitic novels of the nineteenth century. This type of female protagonist can be found in the novels written by Józef Weyssenhoff (Hetmani [The Hetmans]), Rev. Jan Gnatowski (Zły czar [Bad Spell]), and then in the 1930s in the novels by Roman Dmowski (Dziedzictwo [The Heritage]) and Jędrzej Giertych (Zamach [The Coup]). In these narratives, Poland is presented as a victim of manipulation by Jews, Germans, and in the case of the Bad Spell by Jewish Bolsheviks. In these stories, female Jewish revolutionaries implement their secret policies using their strong erotic influence to seduce Polish activists. Demonism and evil, as well as the misogynistic attitude of the fin de siècle era were employed to create their portraits. In these female protagonists, one can detect echoes of features associated with such Jewish heroines as Salome, Judith, and Herodias whose portraits were typical of the art and literature of the epoch.

Zu den Quellen der sprachwissenschaftlichen Terminologie im Deutschen mit Berücksichtigung des Polnischen und Russischen: Forschungsmethodologie und Begriffsbasis

Author(s): Michail L. Kotin / Language(s): German Issue: 76/2020

The paper deals with selected aspects of the influence of foreign terminology and borrowings from everyday language as well as from other terminological systems on linguistics. Since linguistics is a relatively young branch of scientific research, it has been strongly and consequently influenced by other sciences and their terms throughout its development as an autonomous field of research. On the other hand, a specific feature of linguistics in comparison to other spheres of human knowledge is its mixed character, since it describes both universal and relative (language-specific) properties of language systems. For this reason, terms borrowed from Latin, Greek or other languages can never completely cover the phenomena found in German, Russian, Polish etc. Nevertheless, borrowed terms undoubtedly can adequately describe different properties of other languages, if we understand them exclusively as conventionalized etiquettes in which the internal transparency of their morphological form does not play a decisive part.

Zachowane elementy dialektalne we frazeologii rosyjskiej gwary staroobrzędowców regionu suwalsko-augustowskiego

Author(s): Magdalena Grupa-Dolińska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2022

The aim of the article is to present dialectal elements preserved in the phraseological stock of the Russian dialect of the Old Believers living in the Suwałki-Augustów region. The Old Believers arrived in the Polish territories about two centuries ago. Upon arrival they used the Russian dialect which belonged to the Novgorod-Pskov type (western type of Central Russian dialect). Many dialectal elements such as specific lexemes and morphological features have survived in their traditional dialect since then, despite increasing influence of the Polish language. The current study focuses on the phraseological stock of the dialect because within the structure of phraseological units there are not only con temporary words but also archaic components. Thus, it is a valuable source of knowledge about linguistic features of the language in question.

Wybrane ludowe wierzenia o zwierzętach domowych w polskiej frazeologii

Author(s): Olga Kielak / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2022

Extending the boundaries of linguistic description by including the so-called “peri-linguistic” data, as practised in ethnolinguistic research, the paper analyses selected phraseological units with an animal component (expressions, nominal phrases and comparative expressions) and situates them in a broader cultural context. The examples selected for analysis demonstrate that phraseological expressions – constituting hard linguistic data which enable the “certification of features” – through the reconstructions of linguo-cultural representations provide access to “soft” (folkloristic and ethnographic) data. In addition, the conducted analyses confirm the prevalent opinion that phraseological units are an excellent source for research into traditional culture; they also encourage interdisciplinary research (at the border of linguistics and ethnography).
