Kultura reformacji i reformowanie w kulturze

Author(s): / Language(s): Polish

Już od czasów Maxa Webera w refleksji naukowej i filozoficznej pojawiała się myśl, że reformacja to nie tylko zjawisko historyczne, ale nade wszystko społeczno-kulturowe. Kojarzą się z nią m.in.: indywidualizm, doświadczeniowość, nowoczesność, innowacja, aktywizm, asceza w świecie, kreatywność, samorefleksja, komunitarianizm, oszczędność, rozwój rachunkowości, krytycyzm, kapitalizm, kultura pisma i druku, odczarowanie, sekularyzacja. To jedynie kilka przykładów zjawisk i wartości wiążących się nierozłącznie z szeroko rozumianą reformacją w kulturze. Samo istnienie reformacji owocuje historycznie pojęciem tolerancji i szacunku dla różnorodności, choć droga do tych wartości nie jest łatwa i bezbolesna.W dniach 22–24 maja 2017 roku odbyła się w Uniwersytecie Łódzkim i Akademii Muzycznej im. Bacewiczów w Łodzi interdyscyplinarna konferencja ze specjalnymi gośćmi z całego świata. W Łodzi obradowali m.in.: Rita Süssmuth (Niemcy), prof. Ian Hazlett (Glasgow, Szkocja), prof. lnes Murzaku (New Jersey, USA), prof. Ivo Pospíšil (Brno, Czechy), prof. Cora Dietl (Giessen, Niemcy), prof. Hans-Jürgen Bömelburg (Giessen, Niemcy).Tom zbiera wybrane aspekty kultury reformacji i reformowania w kulturze.

Wyd. 2

Author(s): Wojciech Kaute / Language(s): Polish

A human being gets organized in a nation, as Aristotle says, for “a good life”. However, according to him, one has to differentiate between “a good citizen” and “good man”. The history of philosophy has created various polis conceptions as a result of the fact that a human being, in its cognition, cannot situate itself in a position of the one who knows an “objective” good, “truth”. Each cognition is just a “vision” and interpretation of the world. Thus, one has to assume that a reflection on culture equals a reconstruction of these “visions”. This is a history of ideas. Such a reconstruction is also an interpretation. The situation gets complicated in the post-world. Traditional languages lose their significance in a global world of mass culture. And that means that the status of the history of ideas, this interpretation of interpretations, gets too unclear these days.

Poszukiwacz sensu wśród strzępków historii. Wokół „Z. Po-wieści” Mieczysława Porębskiego

Author(s): Katarzyna Szkaradnik / Language(s): Polish

The book is devoted to the reconstruction and analysis of the philosophy of history and philosophy of culture, an outline of which Mieczysław Porębski presented in Z. Po-wieść (1989). This work is sometimes classified as a postmodern “professorial novel”, while the author of A seeker of sense among the strands of history tries to demonstate that the bricolage poetics is mainly staffage, as the distinguished art historian and theorist was motivated by the desire to reflect on the historical process and the meaning of European culture for contemporaries. The leitmotif of Z. is the wandering of the title character through the history and literature of the Old Continent, considered in the monograph i.a. in relation to the composition, the world presented, the autothematism, the philosophical assumptions and the ideological meaning of the novel. The authoress analyzes the figure of the protagonist, genological issues, the problem of historiography and narrative, and the textual implication of the authorial subject. She considers the dialectic between the search for universal truths about human nature and the imperative to convey the truth of one’s own time, and furthermore presents the futuristic predictions of the author of Iconosphere. Finally, she shows the hermeneutic perspective as the best one to interpret Z., as it is revealed in the actions and utterances of the protagonist himself, who seeks the essential message of tradition and the meaning of historical experience.

Ieșirea din cerc. Politica externă a regimului Georghiu-Dej

Author(s): Mioara Anton / Language(s): Romanian

Mioara Anton, who has already stood out as one of the most authoritative representatives of the "new wave" of Romanian historiography, assumed the task, not easy, of providing an assessment of the Romanian-Soviet relations in the first two post-war decades through the prism of mutations produced from the model vassal stage to that of rebel ally. The work is both the result of the critic takeover and the integration of known historical sources and of the studies and works on the topic addressed directly, but also of their own and substantial research in the archives. The result was materialized in a synthesis work, by dimensions, but which excels by the number and quality of the original sources and by the originality of its structure and the accents put in the analysis. The author does not propose a work on the whole of the Romanian-Soviet relations, premature, given the current state of knowledge of sources and the stage of special research, but an incursion into the evolution of the relations between the political regimes in Romania and the Soviet Union through the prism of the perception and reaction of the communist leaders in Bucharest – first of all, Gheorghiu-Dej – towards the directives of the Kremlin. Mioara Anton thus offers both specialists and a wide circle of researchers the opportunity to know the essential segment of the Romanian-Soviet relations, as well as the necessary guide for the correct deciphering of the struggle for power control within the communist regime in Romania. Among the topics covered: Romania and the Soviet-Yugoslav schism; Khrushchev's secret report, withdrawal of Soviet troops, disputes with the Soviet Union in CAER, Khrushchev's visit to Romania in 1962, Romania's opening to the West, April 1964 declaration.

O vară fierbinte în relațiile româno-sovietice. Convorbirile de la Moscova din iulie 1964

Author(s): Vasile Buga / Language(s): Romanian

This volume includes the transcript of the conversations held in Moscow between 7-14 July 1964 between the delegation of the Romanian Workers Party (RWP), led by Ion Gheorghe Maurer, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the RWP, president of the Council of Ministers of the Romanian people's Republic, and the delegation of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), led by Nikolai V. Podgorny, member of the C.C. Presidium, and the transcript of the discussion held on the occasion of the reception of the Romanian delegation by Nikita S. Khrushchev, First Secretary of the C.C. of the CPSU, chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. The author's interventions in the text were minimal, being dictated by the need to comply with the current spelling rules. The editor included in the volume the letters that preceded the organization of the visit of the Romanian delegation to Moscow, as well as the note of problems on the agenda of the Romanian-Soviet relations that the RWP delegation wanted to address in talks with the Soviet side.

Vremea încercărilor. Relațiile româno-sovietice, 1930-1940

Author(s): Alexandru-Murad Mironov / Language(s): Romanian

The book deals with some particularly important aspects of Romania's international relations in the interwar period, a problem centered on the years of the fourth decade, subject to research before and after 1989. From the beginning, the author insists extensively on what were the general features of the Romanian-Soviet relations, starting from the ideas and beliefs in the perspective of normal and civilized relations, which were found plenary in the conference of 1930, under the beautiful and expressive title "peace dynamics", and which testified to an evolutionary vision in the future and the hope of peace and understanding between nations, unfortunately countered by the actions of the Kremlin and then by those of Berlin. As for the general features of the Romanian-Soviet relations, they stood under the sign of Russian intransigence in the Bessarabia issue, tense, contorted, contradictory, with flows and ebbs, with blackmail and threats, until the resumption of diplomatic relations in June 1934. The author deals extensively with the origins of the Bessarabia problem, focusing on the circumstances, conditions and immediate actions of the historical event, as well as portraying the framework and how the initiation of the Romanian-Soviet negotiations was reached. The book is a contribution to the fuller, more documented, more correct and more objective knowledge of a distinct period in the contemporary history of Romania, being built on an excellent, rich information, in which the archival document is in a privileged position.

Confesiunile elitei comuniste. România 1944-1965: Rivalităţi, represiuni, crime… Arhiva Alexandru Şiperco, Volumul III

Author(s): Andrei Șiperco / Language(s): Romanian

Starting with the ’70s until the revolution of December 1989, Alexandru Siperco conducted several hundred unofficial interviews, totaling thousands of pages, with 350 members and sympathizers from illegality of the Romanian Communist Party (RCP) – among them many former members of the Communist nomenklatura or of the repression apparatus during the Gheorghiu-Dej regime – but also with representatives of former historical parties, including Corneliu Coposu, Ioan Hudita and Camil Demetrescu. No one, neither in Romania nor in the rest of the states of the former communist bloc, has initiated and even less has managed to achieve such an approach that concerns the uncosmitized history of communism. For Alexandru Siperco, the determinant was his desire to know as much as possible of the period between April 4, 1944, and the moment of March 19, 1965, the death of Gheorghiu-Dej. From the interviews given to Alexandru Siperco are not missing events such as: the act of august 23; actions for the conquest of power; liquidation of the political opposition; the struggle for power in the RCP and its consequences; collectivization and monetary reform; the role of Soviet advisers; the activity of repressive bodies; the regime in communist prisons; relations with Moscow leaders; the Rajk, Slansk and Kostov trials; foreign policy; blackmail, betrayals, assassinations; friends and rivals. There are also memories of illegals regarding the period of political detention, the Civil War in Spain, the French Resistance and the political emigration to the U.S.S.R. The testimonies present in this volume: Ladislau Ady, Ronea Gheorghiu, Piotr Goncearuc, Solomon Graur, Octavian Groza, Charlotta Gruia, Nicolae Guina, Alexandru Iacob, Mircea Ioanid, Leon Petre Iosif, Dumitru Ivanovici, Thea Kaplan, Lev Kotlear, Corneliu Leu, Mihail Levente, Aurel Lieblich, Petre Lupu, Manole H. Neusachliche Verhaltenslehren in der Prager deutschen Literatur

Author(s): Adéla Grimes / Language(s): German

This publication deals with the new-objective way of writing and new-objective cool conduct and its occurrence in Prague-German literature. Three representative novels, Otto Roeld’s Malenski auf der Tour, Hans Natonek’s Kinder einer Stadt, and Paul Kornfeld’s Blanche oder Das Atelier im Garten, were chosen to demonstrate the appearance of New Objectivity within the ‘circle’ of Prague-German authors. New-objective features analysed in these works prove the hitherto prevalent marginalization of New Objectivity within German-written literature in Prague to be unjustified. The biography of the authors included in this publication points out their most important stages in life, as well as their participation in the cultural space of Bohemia and the Weimar Republic.

Leonard Cohen, the Modern Troubadour

Author(s): Jiří Měsíc / Language(s): English

This monograph arose from thinking about the literary tradition as described by the Anglo-American modernist writers Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot. In their view, the tradition of European love-lyrics crystallized in the work of the medieval Occitan troubadours, who represented the cultural and political milieu of the Occitanie of that period and whose work reflected the religious influences of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Nowadays, it is not surprising that contemporary artists draw on the troubadour poets and that they are even contrasted with them by critics. Such is the case of Leonard Cohen, who, during his career, revealed erudition in medieval poetry and religion and whose work shows many parallels with the work of his Occitan predecessors.

Author(s): Jaromír Synek,Gabriela Všetičková / Language(s): English,Czech

The monograph is the second volume in a series that will encompass the correspondence of the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů with his family in Polička. This volume contains 56 items of correspondence (letters, post card) from the years 1932 and 1933. The correspondence is one-sided as only letters sent by Bohuslav Martinů to his mother and siblings were preserved. Even so, these documents are unique and authentic expressions, in which Martinů remarks on both his personal and his professional life - with the aim to share his news, intentions, and opinions firstly with his closest relatives but secondly also, through them, to a broader circle of his friends in Polička and Czechoslovakia. The Czech version provides an exact diplomatic transcription of Martinů's manuscript letters.

Češi se ve světě neztratí, natož v Americe. Medailonky ze života českých vystěhovalců

Author(s): Miloslav Rechcígl / Language(s): Czech

In the book, the author presents a panorama of the fates of selected personalities whose roots are in the Czech lands and who achieved extraordinary success in the United States and whose activities significantly influenced the development and growth of the new homeland. It is a saga of ordinary and powerful people whose influence and importance often extended beyond the borders of the United States. However, a large number of the persons mentioned will certainly be completely unknown to the Czech readership, as their Czech origins were generally unknown. The book covers the entire period from the discovery of the New World to the beginning of the 21st century. The individual personalities were chosen solely according to the taste and interest of the author, and the selection was based on their importance, contribution and the interest of their lives, the only condition being that they were either born on Czech territory or were descendants of emigrants from Czech lands.

Restraint´s Rewards: Limited Sovereignties, Ancient Values, and the Preamble for a European Constitution

Author(s): Peter McCormick / Language(s): English

Any EU constitution tomorrow will need to embody basic European ethical values. Yet the identity of such values and their sources remain strongly controversial. Peter McCormick retrieves from cultural origins of some major European values a basic ethical value of a measured and critically reasoned restraint in all things. At the same time he argues that this originary ethical value entails a renewed understanding of political, social, and individual sovereignties no longer as almost absolute but as necessarily limited. The rewards for polities of fully assuming such a basic ethical value turn out to include the ineluctable necessity for the rule of law, the constitutionalisation of social pluralisms, and the entrenchment of personal dignity.

Juliusz Bursche – myśli, działalność i dziedzictwo

Author(s): / Language(s): Polish

Juliusz Bursche (1862–1942) był zwierzchnikiem największego protestanckiego Kościoła w międzywojennej Polsce, Kościoła Ewangelicko-Augsburskiego (inaczej: luterańskiego), wówczas dużo liczniejszego i bardziej wpływowego niż obecnie, mającego charakter niemiecko-polski.
