some great militants, Aurel Lazăr’s evolution in the national movement followed an upward route. In the year
1901 he became a member in the Executive Committee of the National Romanian Party, consolidating its
militant wing. Proving real political qualities, active and full of energy, Aurel Lazăr is nominate the candidate
of the National Romanian Party for the parliamentary elections of the years 1906 and 1910, in the electoral
circle of Tinca, the county of Bihor
At the end of the war, Aurel Lazăr entered the political elite of the Transylvanian Romanians.
Inferring the favorable juncture and the first gesture the Romanians had to make, Aurel Lazăr was one of the
initiators and the organizer of the memorable Conference of the Executive Committee which took place in
Oradea, on October 12, 1918 and which was held in his house. On the occasion of that Conference, Aurel
Lazăr was elected a member in the restricted Bureau of the Executive Comity, and a few days later he was
among the six delegates of the National Romanian Party, who, together with some other six social-democratic
Romanians, formed the Central National Council of Arad. As a delegate of the Central National Romanian
Council, Aurel Lazăr founded and led, till the middle of December 1918, the National Romanian Council of
Oradea and Bihor county, the supreme forum of the Romanian national councils and guards of the county. It
was the period while he tried hard and even managed to gather around himself all the Romanian strengths of
Bihor and to guide them towards the city of Alba-Iulia, where he made all the necessary preparations for the
National Assembly.
Aurel Lazăr was one of those who made the Great Union of December 1, 1918, one of the “parents”
of the new country. As a part of the Central National Romanian Council, he contributed to finalizing the
Motion of the Union, which was to be exposed in front of the Assembly. He prepared and led the deputation of
Bihor county at the Grand National Assembly of Alba-Iulia. He was in the Union Hall, among the 1228
delegates, being at the same time one of the orators in the Assembly and speaking to the crowed which had
gathered on the Romans’ Plateau, both from the official rostrum and from other unofficial ones. As he returned
from Alba-Iulia, Aurel Lazăr started preparing himself for taking over the administration of the county and for
receiving the Romanian army.
