Nourished by the ideas of the Theatre of the Absurd that relied on the loss of logical language and on ridiculing conventionalised and stereotyped speech patterns, which were considered to represent a barrier between us and what the world is really about, Edward Albee developed a view of the theatre that was unconventional, if not defiantly radical, by means of the language used, incoherent, frightening and strange but, at the same time, somehow humorous and hauntingly poetic and familiar. In Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Edward Albee is concerned with the failure of communication and the sexual substructure of modern society, by rejecting logic for a type of non-logic, which is stylistically transposed in a unique manner, giving birth to the play’s black humour. Edward Albee’s play observes the trends of drama related to this period that induces a kind of sick laughter, mocking and self-deprecating. His black humour shares the general traits of this trend, i.e. the debasement and dehumanization of man, a rising lack of moral values that results in a dark humour that laughs at the irrationality of the world, to which he also adds his personal tinge, i.e. the themes of lack of communication and lack of individuality, which are brilliantly rendered linguistically in his play, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.

Confronted with the disenchantment of the world caused by post-modernity, it is difficult to bring backinto discussion a well-defined identity, based on specific, often cultural, elements. European identity is acomplex notion defined both by characteristics common to the cultures of various ethnicities and peoplein the European geographical area, as well as by their specific characteristics. In this article we will studythe relationship between identity and culture in relation to the European construction as an institutionalproject to see how the concept of Europe, its cultural sources and the EU political project can becombined. European culture (as well as its bases of identity) does not only have an evolution composed ofall local, national and sub-national cultures, but it also consists of all exchanges between the national andlocal cultures that have come together for centuries. In this sense, Europeans are “heirs” of the plural andunitary history of their continent, but what role does this feature have, impregnated with pluralism andunity, in an identity perspective? In order to answer this question, we will focus on the links betweenculture and the sphere of identity, seeking, on the one hand, to know the elements that, in a scientific way,bring together or divide these two key concepts, and, on the other hand, studying the way in whichplurality acts within the identity.

Relationship between religion and science remains a permanent attraction of all people. As the simplestatheist is the most telling proof of the existence of God, as any attempt to change the message revealed byGod, is implicit recognition. This is also the attitude of the authors of the paper, great Plan StephenHawking and Mlodinow Leonad. That last reality of this world bears the imprint of the Holy Trinity, weeven say the authors, who are not as irreligious, as will appear. Speaking about quarks, they say thefollowing: "Curacii, which also we cannot see, I am a model explaining the properties of protons andneutrons from the nucleus of an atom. Although I think that protons and neutrons are obtained fromQuark, we won't be able to notice a Quark never, because the force between quarks increases enormouslyas they try to separate them, so there may be no free quarks in nature. They always occur in groups ofthree (proton and neutron) or in pairs Quark-Quark (mezonii), and behaves as if it would be connectedwith rebounding, (Stephen Hawking, 2012, 40).

The theme of suffering is recurrent in the texts of the Book of Scripture, touching upon a most complextheological topic and undertaking some of the most unexpected significances: suffering as a punishmentfor evil doing, suffering as a future reward, suffering as an experience of God’s presence, suffering asmedicine both for the body and for the soul, suffering as proof of faith, suffering as a form of purificationboth of the body and of the soul, suffering because of or for another, Christ’s suffering, suffering as aconfirmation of the Christ etc. Illness, pain and the fear of suffering make up a common semantic space inmany of the texts in the Book of Scripture. Therein the legitimate question coming from those who lessunderstand the mystery of faith and of man’s relation to God: if God is good, why does He consent to thesuffering of the innocent?

Karl Jaspers was one of the most important contemporary philosophers, who had a significantcontribution to developing modern philosophy and theology in the Western cultural space, together withhis co-nationals Martin Heidegger and Paul Tillich. In his book, Der philosophische Glaube angesichtsder Offenbarung, Karl Jaspers considers the well-known treaty by Peter Damian called “On DivineOmnipotence”, and the present article aims at evincing the manner in which the German-Swissphilosopher deals with this topic of omnipotent divinity, as well as the perspective he has on the doctrineof the famous Benedictine monk and cardinal of the 11thcentury; last but not least, the article focuses onhighlighting the importance of this topic in the past and present philosophical-theological debates. Thisarticle approaches the topic of divine omnipotence in a wider context, thus reviewing the nuancedanswers given by the most remarkable thinkers of the Western Antiquity and Middle Ages to questionsabout the manner in which the divinity interacts with the order of the created world. It is certain that PeterDamian has an innovative view on time, history and natural necessity. To Peter Damian the past does notescape divine omnipotence, it is not merely history, it is not consumed, exhausted and fixed once andforever, but instead it is dependent on divine omnipotence. Consequently, the present article attempts toshow the logical consequences that this novel point of view has at the beginning of the 2nd Christianmillennium.

Nature is ontologically in motion. It neither admits of a state of inaction nor a vacuum. Therefore, allnature is perpetually in internal and external motion known as development. Progress is the manifestationof this motion in the positive direction. All theories of development among humans as social speciespresuppose some philosophy. Development in the social plane is values-oriented. It is always teleologicalto a certain philosophy or set of values. Therefore, philosophy is at the basis of theories of nationaldevelopment. But not all philosophies are suitable to all peoples. Some are actually harmful. Althoughdevelopment can be economical, social, cultural or political, it takes place within a certain conception ofthe world, and the place of man in that world. Western framed theories of development for Africaneconomies have not always taken this into consideration. This research critiques the application of thesetheories to African economies and their resultant tumultuous impacts. The work is based on libraryresearch subjected to critical philosophical analysis .Western framed theories of development intended toWestern tackle situation or serve Western interests, cannot bring about the much needed development onthe African continent. Africa must chart the way forward by coming up with home-grown theories ofdevelopment. An African existentialist theory of development which is factored on local existentialrealities will bring the much needed turnaround.

This paper represents an analysis of Nichifor Crainic’s work in terms of influence of paisian monasticism.As it is reflected in his work, St. Paisie Velichkovsky sits a top the pyramid or, rather, among thosepeople who contributed through their works and their personality to influence intellectual and religiousformation of this author. About St. Paisie, Crainic speaks not only with admiration, but also withreverence, giving to understand that the abbot is more than a man - a saint, so a man deified.Abbot holiness places it in Nichifor Crainic’s conscience above other valuable personalities, becauseholiness is evidence of a destiny fulfilled, as he himself is entitled courses mystical holiness - humanfulfillment. Based on the experience of the Church, he knew that prayer, that the connection with God orHis grace uninterrupted stay, should come from it. Moreover, he also knew that the congregationnumerous St. Paisie worked perfectly if within them have been listening, prayer and struggle againsthuman passions, but fell apart when passions and not the spirit of holiness took over monks, divided onlybecause quarrels due abbots. In Crainic's view, Orthodoxy respects the variety of nature because it is thework of God.

Positiveschools support, enhance and promote positive mental health and well-being that are considered as moreimportant as academic outcomes. Assessing students’ emotions and attitudes and well-being providesuseful information that can be used in positive health strategies of promotion and intervention in childrenand youth. School-based targeted programs and interventions are more often required in many schools fortheir benefits for positive mental health, social and emotional skills, and well-being.

The outstanding personalities of their every epoch were concerned with education along centuries. Thepedagogical and didactic activity before Christ represents a major landmark for the present times and isthe richest source of inspiration and of acknowledgement of major universal values. History enrichedhumanity with valuable personalities since early times such as Socrates, whom we discover two basicideas referring to pedagogy that is “I’m aware that I don’t know anything”. Both Socrates and Plato andAristotle, through their writings start the science of pedagogy. Aristotle is the prototype of the professorand the promoter of progressive development of the human nature with him, the three sequences of theevolution of the soul: the corporality, sensitiveness and intelligibility need different approaches. The nextperiod brought great Christian educators on the scene of artistic education such as St. Basil the Great,Gregory of Nazianzus, St. John Chrysostom and Thomas Aquinas. These hold God before all aspirationsand events. The 17th century brings to the attention in the area of the education an important andcontroversial figure the philosopher and pedagogue Jean Jacques Rousseau who issued many ideas thatinfluenced new pedagogical trends. He realized that the aim of education is the rehabilitation of the socialman, and this rehabilitation should be made according the lows of God. The ideas of Jean JacquesRousseau are to be found with John Locke who initiated theories according with which the man is bornfree and uses his reason as he will. He criticizes the medieval education and deals with the children’seducation, attempting a particular teaching. He suggests courses for training in various jobs as: engraving,perfume making, drawing, etc. The essence of John Locke’s thinking consists in the fact that itapproaches an attentive observation of the inner soul of the child and of his temperamental features andabove all of the stages of physical and mental development. The personality who achieves for the firsttime in history solidarity between the productive activity and the educational one is Johann HeinrichPestalozzi, who starts a social educational establishment for children. The 20th century brings the focuson the child in school. The research made especially by Jean Piaget and Ellen Key demonstrate this.

For centuries, the major story of enlightenment was that education is and should be the cornerstone of our society. We try to educate people to make them respectable members of society, something which we inherently relate to being ‗better persons‘, firmly believing that education makes humans less prone to evil. Today, modern research seems to validate that premise: statistics verify that more education results to less crime. But is this picture accurate and does this mean anything regarding morality per se? This paper tries to examine the facts with a more critical eye and determine whether education is indeed a source of ethics or not. The results of the analysis show that what we understand as education is not only unrelated to ethics but can also be a factor resulting in the degradation of morality in humans. Rousseau‘s arguments against science and arts are re-enforced with arguments stemming from other great philosophers and from modern experience itself. Using modern statistical analysis regarding the correlation of crime and education and through the examination of the modern regression in ethical issues, it becomes evident that education cannot and should not be a source of ethics. Knowing what is ethical is not as important as living an ethical life. Pharisees were the first to be denied the entrance to the kingdom of God. As Oscar Wilde once said, "Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught".

Each time, we find it very difficult to understand the real cause of suffering and this happens becauseillness and suffering hurt the individual in his most intimate experience. The suffering man mustexperience inner conflict: how he must understand himself. We are aware that God is not the cause of ourevil and suffering, but they must be allowed by Providence. The persistent question lingers: why doesGod allow man, the most beautiful of all creatures, to wallow in misfortune, suffering, pain and death?Throughout all the New Testament, the experience of healing and recovering from various illnesses, aswell as forgiving sins, certify Christ’s salvation work, eventually accomplished by death and resurrection.All instances of healing physical illnesses that the Saviour performs are a forerunner of His salvationwork achieved by His sacrifice on the Cross. Therein lies the great sacrament: Christ, crucified on theCross, overcomes suffering and pain by His own suffering and pain. If until the Resurrection sufferingand illnesses were only cured by the manifestation of divine power, Resurrection bestows a newdimension upon suffering, which is transfigured, in that it becomes triumph.

The joint efforts of the competent institutionsof the world’s states, Christian Churches, environmental organizations have succeeded, at some points, inthe adjustment of pollution and the implementation of policies to protect the environment. In this context,we can say that in some points the human desire and the survival of the earth are similar. In any case, nohuman desires or desires can be realized as long as the earth no longer exists.On this paper I will try to emphasis some aspects of ecological crisis and how they affect us. The Palaeologos era was, paradoxically, a period of rebirth and flourishing of spiritual and cultural life,amid a deep political-military and economic decline, which led to the Byzantine Empire's disappearancefrom history. The two movements that brightened this era, the spirituality of Hesychasm and the palamitetheology, on the one hand, and classical Byzantine humanism, on the other hand, influenced all the fieldsof life of the Byzantine Empire, including sacred art. The present study aims to highlight how and to whatextent they have left their mark on the Byzantine iconography, enriching it both thematic and modal, thatis, the way in which the painters of the past have transposed into the icons the influences of the twomovements.

Actors are creators. They live on the stage and bring their own world with them. Sometimes, actors canlive under the impression that the inner world of a part is so far away from their personal experience thatthere is no other access path towards the core of the character than creating a substitute, a model thatwould be convincing enough, so that, through imitation, reproduction and simulation of reality, theymight go through with the scene. Some others might think that the simplest way to approach a part is toonly focus on the lines, enveloping themselves in the melody, in an incantation of sorts, thus making thetext, who had in the meanwhile become unclear, to surround them with a kind of fog that gives them thefeeling they experience something real, an actual state. Some other times it happens that actors findphysical actions to fill their own voids. It is a way to hide, and the actions are actually useless, and nonartistic. To find the way to a character one needs, first of all, to discover and understand the logicalmechanism it is built upon, that makes a character what it is.

The present paper is meant to emphasize on the one hand the connection between how the mind worksand the specific diseases a person might suffer from and on the other hand the relation betweenpsychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy. Both of them are wide interdisciplinary fields of knowledge.Whereas the psychosomatic medicine is concerned with the interaction of biological, psychological, andsocial factors in regulating the balance between health and disease, psychotherapy in general andcognitive-behavioural therapy in particular helps patients learn new ways to cope with and solve theirproblems as they gain a deeper understanding of their condition or circumstances. Patients also learn toset realistic life goals and identify and change patterns of behaviours or thoughts that have negativeeffects on their health and lives. The common elements of both fields should be the personalized andholistic approach to the patient, adding psychosocial assessment to the standard medical examination andthe integration of psychological and psychiatric therapies in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitationof medical disease. Different psychotherapeutic techniques from cognitive-behavioural therapy have beenbrought forth in this paper. They have been applied to medical patients in controlled investigations (areasthat have been extensively explored are cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, neurologicaldisorders, chronic pain, diabetes, and cancer).The conclusion of this study is that these interventions mayimprove lifestyle and self-management, treatment adherence, coping, quality of life, distress (especiallydepression and anxiety), course of physical illness, and reduction in utilization of medical services.

During the last decade, the legislative changes made by the EU in the field of social policies have been, toa great extent, the result of the need to prevalently abide by two fundamental principles: equalopportunities for women and men (at all levels of social life, but especially in what labour market isconcerned) and gender equality, in the context of an escalating necessity of solving social, economic andpolitical issues caused by gender inequality in European societies. An issue with multiple effects inpresent-day social life is the imbalance between professional life and private/ family life, whichnegatively affects the quality of life of both men and women. This study aims at surveying the mostrecent legislative and social policies documents (henceforth, informative documents and legislativedocuments) of the European Union, with regard to the reconciliation of work and private and family life,an acknowledged right of European citizens which calls for a legal framework for the implementation andapplication of the associated measures and solutions. The synthetic analysis of the official documentsundertaken in this paper is the result of a thorough investigation carried out on the European Unionwebsite. The study raises several significant question for the proposed framework, but it comes down tooutlining a number of essential elements present in the documents selected, without advancing answers.The field of work-life balance policy is currently undergoing a transformation process and formulatingdefinitive answers is still untimely.

Catinca Drăgănescu is one of the key figures in today’s Romanian theatre. As a playwright and stagedirector she’s inspired by Romania’s social realities, and she always militates towards a theatre ofconsciousness, a theatre that’s always grounded in `present tense.„Rovegan” as a play but also as a theatreshow represents a clear example of Drăgănescu’s proactive and focused approach towards Romania’ssocial problems. In „Rovegan” she approaches the problem of economic migration. This is one of themost important issues in Romania’s society today. The main factors that influence Romania’s citizens tomake this decision (leaving the country) are poverty and lack of perspective. These main subjects are keyelements in Catinca’s play. Following the script of the well-known fairy tale „Capra cu trei iezi” by IonCreanga, the play follows the story of a mother who goes abroad, in Italy to work and her children whoremain at home. The main subjects of the play, that brig up violent emotions in the audience, arecapitalism as we know it today in Romania and the separation between mother and children.

Corpus Dionysiacum’s allegiance to the Origenist camp is a new research track in the unceasing effort ofthe scholars to discover its mysterious author. This study aims to present some arguments that would highlight the difference in the approach of adramatic text from a literary, conventional perspective and from an organic, violently subjective one. Theanalysis of drama from an acting perspective involves a set of difficulties and peculiarities resultedespecially from its dual nature, because it is in the same time literature (fiction), as well as theater (action,show). The completion of a dramatic text involves, most often, its transformation into a show, but alsointo a processually-objective reality through the actor's creativity. The logical mechanisms typical to theacting creation process can often be inhibited by the need to exert self-control, due to a pattern of thinkingextensively promoted in contemporary society, and that mostly aims success instead of encouraging anhonest journey of self-discovery through theatre.

ON CRITICAL THINKING AND MODERN LIMITS TO HUMAN KNOWLEDGE

We are currently living in a world literally flooded with all types of information, and people have ended up dealing with various kinds of limitations to how much they can or choose to know. We can, thus, identify modern limits to human knowledge falling under (at least) two large categories: either limitations imposed by others (such as authorities, mass media, bosses or leaders, etc), or what we may call self-imposed limitations, i.e. choosing to disregard some information or another, refusing to keep up to date with a state of facts, rejecting scientifically proved data, etc. We are actually talking about outer manipulation (in option A above), or inner manipulation, if we may call it as such, namely the protection of personal comfort even over irrefutable evidence (in option B above). “Ignorance is bliss” (The Matrix,1999), right? At least for some people. Yet, in this intricate matrix of human knowledge some of us are plagued with an incurable disease: critical thinking. A genuine bogeyman of any authoritarian system or regime, critical thinking is responsible for many glitches in this matrix, always at war against any sort of limitations imposed on human knowledge and rationale. We need to keep critical thinking alive and encourage it, and, in this process, identify the decisive vectors capable of disseminating the concept and its value, as well as its applications in everyday life.
