Intensity of these pre-defned identities was tested witha use of a questionnaire completed by 147 representatives of the sector under study. Statisticalanalysis of the collected data verifed the research hypotheses that assumed a certain gradation ofthese work-related identities.Results: Professional identity related to the practised occupation was placed on the highest level followed by task-related identity. Relational and organisational identities were classifed on thethird and fourth levels. Identity related to the trained occupation achieved the lowest score. The employing organization type had no effect on the manifested professional identity. Author(s): Sorina Poledna,Doinița Grosu / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2017

Keywords: migrants; vulnerabilities; social services; integration; counseling

Reflecting on the experience of the social work practice as highlighted by the present analysis starts from recognizing the role complexity of the social worker who’s working with migrants, which means expressing the capacity of performing different, but complementary, professional roles, equally important, depending on the case specificity. As we will explain in the section referring to the work of the social worker within Diakonie Hamburg’s Counseling Center for Eastern European persons, the work performed by the social worker includes not only a professional competence dimension (knowledge, methods and values), but also a symbolic dimension, equally important if we refer to the mission of the social work with migrants. Author(s): Ignatius Ikechukwu Uche,George Olusoji,Abiola Wuraola,Adebisi Sunday Abayomi / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2018

Keywords: Organizational determinants; counterproductive work behavior; maritime Industry

The predominance of counterproductive work behavior in the workplace has propelled negative consequences (such as low productivity, poor job satisfaction, and sabotage among others). This study investigates the relationships between organizational determinants and counterproductive work behavior among employees in Nigerian Maritime Industry. To achieve the objectives, causal research design was adopted employing questionnaire as a primary data collection instrument. Purposive sampling technique was used in drawing a sample of 811 respondents, out of which 734 were found useful for analyses, representing 73.4% response rate. The findings reveal that organizational determinants of CWB (organizational justice, organizational support, organizational climate and organizational culture) have positive significant relationship with each other and negative relationship with CWB. The study recommends that business organizations should develop mechanism for filtering the workplace from possible factors that could propel CWB and then develop capabilities to manage and control them. It therefore concludes that management of organizations should uphold the justice and equity principles and create enabling environment in the work place in order to reduce the tendencies to counterproductive work behavior in the organizations especially in the Nigerian maritime industry

Keywords: education; social education; diagnosis; environment; individual;group;

The aim of the article is to identify the development of the concept of social diagnosis that took place and takes place in social pedagogy. In this discipline, from the very beginning of its existence, the concepts of environmental diagnosis were developed as an activity preceding the necessary social action changing – improving the social world. The area of research are the concepts of social diagnosis developed in social pedagogy by the main creators of this discipline – from the beginnings of its existence up to modern times. The analysis of reconstructed concepts shows that the social diagnosis undertaken in social pedagogy applies to both individuals and social groups – it identifies the environmental conditions of their life and functioning. Most often it concerns such areas as social conditions, participation in culture but also educational conditions and possibilities. It would be necessary to deepen the social diagnosis – also in the sphere of psychological experiences of the participants of social life and the level of their life – also showing new educational environments and their determinants.

The Impact of National Culture on Employees' Attitudes Toward Heavy Work Investment: Comparative Approach Romania vs. Japan

Author(s): Ion Popa,Simona Cătălina Ștefan,Cătălina Florentina Albu,Ștefan Cătălin Popa,Cristian Vlad / Language(s): English / Issue: SI 14/2020

Keywords: heavy work investment; motivation; culture; job satisfaction; work performance; Romania; Japan

This paper aims to study the heavy work investment’s association with different forms of motivation, as well as the positive or negative effects of this investment on a personal and professional level, in the context of two very different national cultures: Romania and Japan. A questionnaire-based survey involving 822 employees in both Romania and Japan was carried out for data collection. The main results, obtained through structural equation modeling, suggest that intrinsic motivation could lead Romanian and Japanese employees to increase their investment of time and effort in work. On the other hand, the intensity of work will be positively reflected in their job satisfaction and professional performance and will lead to reduction in work-family conflict and turnover intention, while the massive investment of time will have opposite consequences. All these relationships are statistically different for employees in Romania and Japan, thus supporting the moderating effect of national culture. These results could be useful to both employees and managers in Romania and Japan to decide on the time and effort should be invested in work, considering both their positive and negative effects for employee and organization.

The Importance of Mentorship in Diminishing Workaholism and Increasing Heavy Work Investment: Evidence from the United States

Author(s): David Sloan,Alan C. Mikkelson,Sebastian A Vaduva / Language(s): English / Issue: SI 14/2020

Keywords: mentorship; workaholism; heavy work investment; employee well-being;

To examine if mentorship can be utilized to alleviate workaholic tendencies and encourage heavy work investment, our paper explored the links between mentorship functions, mentorship quality, and employee outcomes. Hypotheses were tested among 271 full-time employees living in the United States from various organizations using path analysis. Our research's novelty is the analysis of how mentorship functions of career support, psychosocial support and role modeling have a direct effect on mentorship quality and an indirect effect on employee flourishing, job satisfaction, and job stress. The mentoring function of career support also directly affected the mentorship quality and indirectly affected job stress. A direct effect was found between career support and employee flourishing and job satisfaction. Practical implications, such as the easing of workaholic tendencies and encouragement of heavy work investment, along with limitations, and directions for future research, are analyzed.

The influence of the Act of 22 March 2018 about Bailiffs on amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure regarding execution from remuneration for work

Author(s): Damian Kuchta / Language(s): English / Issue: 29 (1)/2020

Keywords: execution; remuneration; labour; civil procedure code; bailiff

The aim of this paper is to present the general issue of execution from remuneration for work and, in particular, the impact that the Act of 22 March 2018 on bailiffs had on changes in the Code of Civil Procedure. The paper uses the methods of critical analysis of sources and systematic review. So far, there has been no doubt that individuals employed under civil-law contracts are in a much worse situation than those employed under employment contracts. For this reason, the legislature wanted to protect them from execution, hence the introduction of a means to make their situation equal in Article 833 § 21 of the Code of Civil Procedure. Despite the good intentions of the legislature, this provision still raises doubts over the wording: ‘ensuring livelihood’. For this reason, the application of new provisions that limit the execution of recurring benefits aimed at ensuring subsistence – other than remuneration for work – requires appropriate action.

Author(s): Emiliana Sri Pudjiarti,Prihatin Tiyanto Priagung Hutomo / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2020

Keywords: HR development; employee engagement; person-fit-organization; competitiveness;

In relation to the problem of SME productivity, it is necessary to investigate whether there is a problem of mismatch between workers and work and groups and corporate cultural values. This study aims to analyze whether the concept of innovative work behavior can mediate the relationship of person-job fit, person-organization fit and person-group fit to job performance. The study was conducted in the metal SME industry in Tegal Regency, with 256 respondents. Data collection tools use questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis is done with a structural equation model. Based on the results of the analysis, there is a positive relationship between variables. This illustrates that the challenges of SMEs in the future are to maintain the best human resources to remain committed to the organization. In maintaining its existence, alignment of individual values with work, organization and groups is the best tool to achieve goals through innovative changes in employee behavior, and also to lay a solid foundation in the recruitment and selection process of new employees that have the potential to increase job performance.

Keywords: International Labour Organization; labour law; minimum age to work; children; night work; women; maternity protection; young people;

The International Labour Organization (ILO) established in 1919 was active in the creation of legal norms for certain work standards and coordinated the cooperation of member states, so that these norms would be transformed into general standards that would be followed in all states and which would be a precondition for securing permanent social peace in the world. One of the basic tasks of the ILO was to protect the most vulnerable on the labour market – children, young people, and women by creating for them appropriate conditions of work. The article deals with the ILO international standards for the protection of these groups, the adoption of the international standards by Estonia, and the effect of these standards on Estonian legislation.

Author(s): Foluso Philip Adekanmbi,Wilfred Isioma Ukpere / Language(s): English / Issue: 4/2021

Keywords: values; cooperation; tasks; obligation; manufacturing; Nigeria;

This study investigates the perceived organizational culture, co-worker support, work performance, and employee demographics as correlates of organizational commitment within Nigeria’s manufacturing industry. The current sample was taken from ten manufacturing organizations in Oyo and Lagos States of Nigeria. Data retrieved were analyzed and presented in tables. Nevertheless, this paper applied a cross-sectional survey approach, of which the survey forms were randomly disseminated. However, out of 500 surveys, 476 were suitable for investigation and analyzed with Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS vs. 27). The objectives of this paper were to find out if there are correlations between perceived organizational support, co-worker support, work performance, employee demographics, and organizational commitment and to determine how organizational commitment can be enhanced and made consistent within Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. The present results established a strong and significant positive correlation between perceived organizational culture, co-worker support, work performance, employee demographics, and organizational commitment within Nigeria’s manufacturing industry. Therefore, the management of manufacturing industries should ensure a good and consistent strategy that makes employees committed to organizational culture, encourage support among co-workers and increase better work performances.

This study melds Japanese principles of 3K and Dirty Work into a new model of Distasteful Work. Elements of work stigma and the associated taint affects workers’ both intrinsically and extrinsically. While 3K is traditionally associated with blue-collar occupations, the results of interviews with employees in Japanese companies suggest a willingness to transpose these associated stigma to white-collar work activities. Adverse stereotyping caused by distasteful work activities has the potential to cause a decrease in mental health leading to lower work efficiency. Particularly in countries that are suffering from labor shortage, maximizing the potential of existing experienced workforces and top talent is paramount, consequently adapted models are necessary. This research examines occupations within commercial banking and identify types of work activities which have higher potential to cause occupational health issues through associated work stigma.

The article describes the analysis of a work operation on a virtual model of a production workplace. In order for the virtual workplace to correspond to reality as much as possible, 3D scanning was used to create a digital model of the part that the worker is manipulating. Tecnomatix Jack software was used to create a virtual workplace model and simulate worker movements. The operation was analyzed by four different methods, namely RULA analysis, OWAS analysis, Comfort Assessment analysis and Lower Back analysis. The results of all analyzes for the same task show that the job is not properly designed and it is necessary to propose workplace changes to eliminate the identified problems.

Promoting the Wellbeing of People Living in Poverty (and Social Workers) through Environmental Social Work Reflections Based on an Italian Case Study

Promoting the Wellbeing of People Living in Poverty (and Social Workers) through Environmental Social Work Reflections Based on an Italian Case Study

Author(s): Elisa Matutini / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2022

Keywords: ecosocial approach; ecological social work; environment; poverty; sustainable development;

In the social work literature, as well as in social work practices, great attention is paid to the role of the environment in defining models and intervention strategies to promote social change, development, cohesion, social emancipation and liberation of individuals. When we talk about the environment, we refer both to a social context in which people live and to the physical environment, made up of the natural world. These are two dimensions that interact constantly and contribute to determining the level of bio-psycho-social wellbeing of each of us. In this regard, environmental social work represents an approach and a perspective within social work focused on the joint promotion of social and environmental justice: human rights, the fight against environmental inequalities, environmental protection and sustainable development. This paper reports the results of research conducted on two ecosocial work projects, based on the re-use of discarded objects and on organic and sustainable agricultural production, activated in a local organisation in Italy's Tuscany Region. They aim to combat poverty and social exclusion of the most vulnerable people living in those regions and, at the same time, to promote more inclusive and environmentally sustainable communities. The research, carried out through the use of a qualitative approach, is configured as a pilot study for the national development of forms of social work inspired by a specific multidimensional approach, capable of producing assessments, planning and implementing social interventions at the nexus between the economic, social and natural environment.

Keywords: labour law; violence; harassment; domestic violence; occupational health and safety; vulnerability; International Labour Organization

Violence and harassment are present in the world of work in the most diverse forms. The ILO Violence and Harassment Convention 2019 should therefore be of great importance for labour law practice. It was adopted on 21 June 2019, together with the non-binding Recommendation for Implementation (No. 206), on the occasion of the centenary of the ILO. As the Convention falls partly within the competence of the European Union, with the EU not being able to ratify the Convention itself, the European Commission has invited the member states to ratify the Convention by the end of 2022. The German Federal Government is currently planning ratification. In the following, I give an overview of the Convention and, using German law as an example, discuss how it could be implemented in a legal system shaped by EU law.
