Current Perspectives in Stress Research and Cardiometabolic Risk

Author(s): Lucia Corina Dima-Cozma,Francesca Romana PATACCHIOLI,Doina Azoicai,Florin Mitu,Cristina Mihaela GHICIUC,Andreea Szalontay / Language(s): English / Issue: 45/2014

Keywords: stress; coping; cardiometabolic risk; cortisol; autonomic nervous system;

The most important objective of this research was to analyze and discuss the current relationship between the level of stress perception and the consequences on cardiometabolic risk in population. The study was based on a literature review, including books, published articles and internet information, as well as on the author’s own experience in this field, regarding the most important concepts about stress, the mediators and systems involved, methods of assessment and evidences about the influences of stress on cardiac, endocrine and metabolic system. Stress and coping with stress have been identified as important variables affecting health, now recognized to be involved in pathogenesis of many diseases: cardiometabolic, respiratory and digestive pathologies, cancer, neuroendocrine and psychiatric disorders. Glucocorticoids, catecholamines, pro- and antiinflammatory cytokines and the parasympathetic nervous system are involved in the adaptation to stressors. The overload of these allostatic systems is characterized by persistent high levels of stress mediators and damaging effects on human health. The stress assessment combine the rating scales for self-evaluation and the laboratory tests. From the medical point of view, the most important step forward in the stress research was made by using salivary stress markers. Measuring cortisol, alpha-amylase, or dehydroepiandrosterone in saliva became a reliable method of investigating stress in human because avoid venipuncture and offer the possibility of self-collection at home or at work, several times per day. Stress markers were significantly increased in metabolic syndrome, hypertension, stroke, ischemic heart disease and heart failure.

THE MICRO-VARIATIONAL TECHNIQUE IN MESSIAENESQUE FOR ORGAN (1993) BY EDUARD TERÉNYI

THE MICRO-VARIATIONAL TECHNIQUE IN MESSIAENESQUE FOR ORGAN (1993) BY EDUARD TERÉNYI

Author(s): Anamaria Mădălina Hotoran / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2010

Keywords: Eduard Terényi; Messiaenesque; contemporary organ music; variation form; micro variation.

In the organ play Messiaenesques by E. Terényi, the theme of the micro-variations illustrates a series of dispersed stylistic suggestions of the music of Oliver Messiaen, namely, melodic lines, rhythms, the dynamics, chords and so on, which are used to create a series of analogies, variations or oppositions. The play on words from the title - by separating the word Messiaenesque we get Messiaen + Enescu - is not an amusement, as it may seem as there are some elements taken from the Enescu’s style and this play mirrors a double stylistic thinking. The variations are made through the montage technique, consisting in the selection of a number of paradigmatic microelements, of the cellular/figurative/motive microstructures of the musical anguage. This micro – entities can be easily identified having the graphic analyse in front: unifying the tones with imaginary lines, we get different geometrical figures.

VIDEO ART INTERCULTURAL DIMENSION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES. THE VIDEO ART EVENT PROJECT

VIDEO ART INTERCULTURAL DIMENSION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES. THE VIDEO ART EVENT PROJECT

Author(s): Teofil Ioan STIOP / Language(s): English / Issue: 7/2015

Keywords: virtual world; video creation; boundary issues; interdisciplinary dialogue

Today, we are not surprised anymore by the huge monitors that “adorn” urban places. In this sense video art tends to leave the interior, where it was born due to television, getting literally out in the open and in this way approaching to its nomadic nature. Equally, the ideatic and critical aspet need an update in challenging the world of the Internet, a world that calls into question the idea of boundary, the boundary of the private space in relation to the public and the delineation of the sphere of the local area communication in relation to an international one. One of the representative artistic manifestations, to illustrate the movement of the genere focal point from television to internet is the Video Art Event project, an annual international video art event that has been taking place since 2010 in Oradea an Milan.

Elisions & Illusions of Queerness: What Sacrifices Are Made in Appeals to a Mass Audience?

Elisions & Illusions of Queerness: What Sacrifices Are Made in Appeals to a Mass Audience?

Author(s): Frances Tuoriniemi / Language(s): English / Issue: 3/2021

Keywords: queer; comics; comic-book movies; superheroes; Marvel; DC; Wonder Woman; Black Panther; film adaptations; homosexuality;

This paper examines the impact of sacrificing queerness when adapting comics into films, which cater to wider audiences – specifically, queer elision in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther (2018) and illusions of queerness in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman (2017). The difference between elision and illusion is crucial, and so approached using different analytical modes. Black Panther’s analysis is rooted in the production process, exploring how/why queerness is erased by drawing comparisons to the explicit queerness of Ta-Nehisi Coates and Roxanne Gay’s comics. The analysis of Wonder Woman focuses on in-depth textual analysis of both Greg Rucka’s comics and Jenkins’s film to illustrate how queer illusions functions across media. Despite these films being hailed as progressive, this paper illuminates how motivations to hide queerness when moving to wider audiences are rooted in homophobia and protecting profit margins.

The present study aims at exemplifying how derivation, word formation, puns or unconventional orthography are represented in social media, especially Facebook. The corpus of the paper is mainly based on commentaries displayed on different pages belonging to Romanian journalists and collected in 2022, approaching the most significant aspects of internal politics.
