Hybrid actor: a new phenomenon in the field of non-state actors

Hybridní aktér: nový fenomén na poli nestátních aktérů

Author(s): Petr Zelinka,Martin Janků / Language(s): Czech / Issue: 4/2009

Keywords: hybrid actor; violent non-state actors; typology; conceptualization; cooperation; transnationalization; structure; goals

This paper argues that the contemporary state of the conceptualization of the nonstate actor is no longer sufficient in the context of recent developments of non-state actors, and calls for a reconceptualization. We thus present the concept of the hybrid actor, that is, an actor which combines the features and activities of different traditional types of non-state actors. On the basis of the typological framework we can define it as the kind of actor which has both political and economic aims and at the same time a type of inner organization that is characterized by features of different kind of structures. The process of hybridization is, among other things, influenced by the possibility of transnationalization and cooperation with other actors. This kind of actor has specific characteristics to such an extent that it gives a reason for the creation of a new category of non-state actors. The process of the hybridization of the non-state actor, according to an analysis of contemporary salient trends, will rather grow in its volume, even more underscoring the importance of the reconceptualization

Decentralization Policies. A comparative international persective

Decentralization Policies. A comparative international persective

Author(s): Virgil Stoica / Language(s): English / Issue: 5/2010

Keywords: decentralization; public policy; ideology; party system; foreign policy

Every modern state has a territorial division of institutions between a national and a peripheral level, and the relationship between center and periphery has generated over time sharp political disputes. For the ex-communist countries, these disputes have been not only a subject of professional debate and political controversy, but also an object of a public policy: the policy of decentralization. The goal of such a policy is not to improve the existing structures, as in stable countries, but to establish completely new relations between institutions that did not exist a few years ago. The first goal of this paper is to show the differences among the systems of local government in three former communist countries: Poland, Romania, and the Republic of Moldova. The second goal of this paper is to explain the divergent trajectories of these policies. Three major factors are used to explain the differences between these countries: the evolution of internal politics, especially the evolution of the party system; the ideology of the ruling party/parties; and the foreign policy orientation of the country.

Vintilă Horia, Ovid’s metamorphoses in his exile at Tomis

Vintilă Horia, Ovid’s metamorphoses in his exile at Tomis

Vintilă Horia, metamorfoza lui Ovidiu în exilul tomitan

Author(s): Sofia Sonia Elvireanu / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 4/2012

Keywords: Vintilă Horia; novel; Ovid; exile; initiation; metamorphoses

The paper aims to illustrate the initiatory experience of the poet Ovid, exiled to Tomis, in Dacia, and his spiritual metamorphoses during the exile. Ovid goes through a double initiation, in an unknown geographical area, but also in the Getae-Dacians culture. He discovers in the barbarian territory of the exile the spiritual superiority of a people with a different religion than that of the Ancient Rome: the faith in Zamolxis, the unique god, a religion which precedes the birth of Christianity. The spiritual centre of the world, represented by Ancient Rome, moves to the edge, Dacia. Getae-Dacians’ faith spiritualizes the space, one of the elements that determines a nation’s cultural identity and shape their way of life. The poet’s initiatory way is also a road to himself, where he finds his deep self being and has unit revelation, during the mystical experience from Poiana Mărului. The poet’s repentance, his conversion to Dacians’ religion, is anticipated by travels and discoveries with initiatory value, by signs and premonitions. The poet’s spiritual change occurs due to the loss of faith in Roman gods, of the inner need of metaphysics and due to the confrontation with death under various internal and external facets of otherness.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL OPERATIONS IN FORMING NOTIONS

THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL OPERATIONS IN FORMING NOTIONS

Author(s): Maria Condor,Monica Chira / Language(s): English / Issue: 01/2011

Keywords: cognitive processes; reasoning; judgments; informational side; concretization; abstraction; stages; imagistic support; problem solving.

In almost every moment of our existence we are engaged in a process of problem solving. Thinking functions as a process of “problematical continuum”. The process of problems solving consists of chaining together reasonings (comprised of judgments which are in turn made up of notions), which when linked together based on the operations of thinking, permit an understanding.

PERMANENT UNEMPLOYMENT, A REFLECTION OF CHANGING THE BASIC STRUCTURE OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

PERMANENT UNEMPLOYMENT, A REFLECTION OF CHANGING THE BASIC STRUCTURE OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

Author(s): Constantin Duguleană / Language(s): / Issue: 02/2014

Keywords: Natural rate of unemployment; Job creation condition; Potential gdp

The analysis of labour market in an economy emphasizes the linkage between the unemployment level and the economy structure with its organization and leading mode, and the context of its growth and development. Numerous empirical analyses of unemployment show that a significant part of its level cannot be explained by the oscillations of overall economic activity, on short term. The structural unemployment and that determined by the transparency level are causes of existence of a permanent unemployment. The paper analyzes the process of jobs creation simultaneously with job destruction and emphasizes how the structure of economic activities suffer positive or negative changes during economic cycle.

A Golden Age of Theology at Prague: Prague Sentences Commentaries from 1375 to 1385, the terminus post quem for Evidence of Wycliffism in Bohemia

Author(s): Chris Schabel,Monica Brinzei,Mihai Maga / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2015

Keywords: Sentences commentaries; Conrad of Ebrach; Conrad of Soltau; Menso of Beckhusen; Nicholas Biceps; Wycliffism

This article is a survey of the first Sentences commentaries at the University of Prague, from lectures delivered between ca. 1376 and ca. 1381, those of Conrad of Ebrach O.Cist, the seculars Conrad of Soltau and Menso of Beckhusen, and Nicholas Biceps O. P. Biceps’ commentary contains the first evidence for Wyclif’s works in Bohemia, but a careful examination of the sources reveals that we have no evidence for Wycliffism in Prague before 1385, not 1381 or 1378 as previously thought. If Biceps was remembered primarily in Prague, Ebrach’s commentary exerted an influence in Paris and Vienna, Soltau’s was read all over Central Europe, and the works of Ebrach, Soltau, and Beckhusen provided the models for several Sentences commentaries at Kraków. They may not have aroused the excitement that Jan Hus and Jerome of Prague would, but they make the years surrounding the onset of the Great Schism a Golden Age of Theology.

NEGATIVE INFLUENCE MARKERS OF RELIGIOUS FANATICS IN SOCIETY

NEGATIVE INFLUENCE MARKERS OF RELIGIOUS FANATICS IN SOCIETY

Author(s): Iulian Dinulescu / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2022

Keywords: Religion; religious fanaticism; behavior; attitude; fanatics; precepts;

Religious fanaticism is a ubiquitous phenomenon in society, shaping and generating complex individual and collective behaviors and duplications both in relation to members of the community they belong to and those outside them. An important role in determining such behaviors has the religious precepts adopted by fanatics. They definitely influence the behavior of the followers as well as the way those with extreme and intolerant religiosity relate, ie the religious fanatics to themselves and to those with whom they interact. For some fanatics, their behavior has a component represented by that of violence committed in the name of their divinity. What is worse is that they think they are right and the rest of the members of society are not, which is why the latter are guilty before the supreme being for not following the sacred precepts and consequently not adapting their behavior to those precepts. For these reasons, the article will analyze the common landmarks of all the entities that fanaticize their followers, as well as the uniqueness of the repercussions on the other members of society.

To make fun of power:

Author(s): Orest Semotiuk,Viktoriya Eduardivna Shevchenko / Language(s): English / Issue: 4/2022

Keywords: political cartoon; memes; political humour; multimodal discourse analysis; content analysis

The paper deals with Ukrainian President’s Zelensky image in political cartoons and memes. They are forms of political humour and can be examined in an interdisciplinary manner. The first part describes theoretical aspects, functions, and elements of political humour and political satire, main features and types of cartoons and memes. In the second part, the corpus of 198 political cartoons and 1121 memes from March 2019 to December 2020 is analysed with computer-aided content analysis and multimodal discourse analysis. The analysis units are social context, formed by the domestic and foreign political events in Ukraine in the research period, joke techniques and communication levels in the cartoons and memes. These units are examined chronologically and thematically. The research is based on the hypothesis about the interdependence of social context and subversive/supportive humour in the construction of Zelensky’s image.

Marin Preda and the political novel. Attempt to update

Marin Preda şi romanul politic. Încercare de actualizare

Author(s): Iulian-Emil Coţofană / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 09/2022

Keywords: Marin Preda; political novel; reception; discourse; criticism and literary history;

The article aims to emphasize how Marin Preda’s novels are related to the political novel. In this regard, we try to uncover, through some discourses, how criticism and literary history viewed this aspect regarding the possibility of approaching truth and ideas within the communist regime. Then, we try to check how in some respects Preda’s novels can be of interest beyond the period of their publication. Analysing other examples, we try to show how there still is a preoccupation with the writer’s biography that mediates the relationship with his works. The conclusions are that the reception of Preda’s literature depends on the background discourse and that both the latter and the literature itself contain a potential that contributes to the understanding of the world after 1989.

THE LITERARY CIRCLE OF THE EIGHTIES GENERATION

Author(s): Cristina A. Oprean Cornea / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 21/2020

Keywords: postmodernism; progress; generation; interpretation; conscience;

The postmodern current from 1980, with isolated antecedents from the second half of the 1960s, reshaptens the Romanian literature with the Western ones, anticipating and then accompanying through its pluralist philosophy the output from the communist regime and the transition to the present democracy, and the literary and cultural follow-up remains to be identified in the programmatic diversity of postmodernity. The nineties brought many critical perspectives and especially proclamations of the end of postmodernism, seeing the same triumphant pleasure. The first important debate on this issue in Romania took place in 1986, with the occasion of the emergence of a special number of "Critical Books" dedicated to postmodernism. During this period, an exposition of the evolution of the word postmodernism and its derivatives, which began to circulate in the Romanian cultural press before 1986, was made.

Metasporic Canons. Nomadic Writing and Micropolitics of the Planetary

Author(s): Laura T. Ilea / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2023

Keywords: metasporic identities; micropolitics of the planetary; Romanian literature; nomadic writing; hybridization

This paper aims to introduce three categories in treating the complex phenomenon of canons’ negotiation from the perspective of literature of migration seen from within and from without, notably the nomadic writing, the hybrid paradigm, and the metasporic identities. Its main focus is on the temporal displacement and the “messy” character of a type of writing that resists canonicity and systematization. This type of writing proposes translational subjectivities and a sense of identity framed rather by re-worlding belongings than by stable identities. Starting from Des Rosiers’ text on Metaspora: Essays on Intimates Homelands, it extends the debate towards what we would call a micropolitics of the planetary and specifically on several “hybrid” and nomadic writers belonging to the Romanian literature, Panaït Istrati, Bujor Nedelcovici, Andrei Codrescu, and Norman Manea.
