The Haidouk Archetype in Hungarian Folklore

The Haidouk Archetype in Hungarian Folklore

The Haidouk Archetype in Hungarian Folklore

Author(s): Ana Hoţopan / Language(s): English / Issue: 03/2008

Keywords: mythology; cultural studies; archetype; Hungarian folklore

The folkloric category dimmed representative for verse and sang epics is the epic song, defined by V.I. Propp as an “epic song destined to be listened”. The haidouk epic song does not appear, however, in the folklore of all countries, as it reflects a specific form of social and national battle specific mainly to Balkan space. In the Central and Eastern European countries, the haidoukship is known from its simplest forms of manifestation to almost real institutions that were supporting the battles for social and national justice of the oppressed countries. To these countries, haidoukship was developed in similar shapes and forms, due to similar historical events. Among these, the Ottoman sovereignty occupies one of the most important places – and it overlapped on other forms of internal feudal exploitation of the peasants.

Cognitive linguistic theories in phraseology

Cognitive linguistic theories in phraseology

Cognitive linguistic theories in phraseology

Author(s): Marija Omazić / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2005

Keywords: phraseology; conceptual integration theory; metaphor theory; metonymy

Departing from the standpoint of two cognitive linguistic theories, the Metaphor Theory and the Conceptual Integration or Blending Theory, this paper attempts to establish their role in the creation and processing of both conventional and modified phraseological units. It investigates the range of applications and interpretations of the existing cognitive models, furnishing them with attested phraseological material to test their efficiency and universality. It is argued that the two theories can be viewed as complementary: whereas the theory of metaphor is productive in accounting for a wide range of conventional phraseological units, the theory of conceptual integration can be consistently applied to the analysis of modified phraseological units.

The Transylvanian Unite Church relationships with Esztergom from the beginning of the religious union, according to Pro Oriente Foundation researches

The Transylvanian Unite Church relationships with Esztergom from the beginning of the religious union, according to Pro Oriente Foundation researches

Biserica unită din Transilvania şi relaţiile cu Esztergomul la începuturile unirii religioase, conform cercetărilor recente ale Fundaţiei Pro Oriente

Author(s): Remus Câmpeanu / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 51/2012

Keywords: Transylvania; Romanians; Religious Union; historiographical disputes

For over ten years, Pro Oriente Foundation in Vienna included among its historical research projects the issue of the Religious Union of the Romanians from Transylvania with the Church of Rome. This initiative belonged to Professor Ernst Christoph Suttner and it was extremely important because, as it is known, Religious Union of the Romanians with the Church of Rome gave rise to a strong and long controversy between historians and theologians in Romania, according to their religious affiliation. Until today, it was not formulated a common historical point of vue on this issue and, therefore, Pro Oriente Foundation proposed to organize some conferences and to publish several volumes which brings together common opinions tied to this topic, belonging to Romanian Orthodox and Greek-Catholic specialists. Several historians and theologians from abroad were to rule on the subject. This study presents only one of the many aspects concerning the Religious Union that Pro Oriente Foundation has investigated in recent years, namely whether the first Greek Catholic Bishop of Transylvania was or not invested again as a bishop in the first stage of Religious Union by its new Catholics prelats from Hungary and Austria, when after, early in his career, was appointed in Bucharest as Transylvanian Orthodox bishop by the hierarchy of the Orthodox Church. As it is shown in this study, the problem is difficult to be clarified even by the recent researches, due to the lack of the archival documents and because of powerful historical and political sensitivities that Religious Union continues to generate.

Bacovia at the Baccalaureate Exam

Bacovia at the Baccalaureate Exam

Bacovia la bacalaureat

Author(s): Nicolae Manolescu / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 28/2001

Keywords: baccalaureate examination in Romania; reforms in educational system in Romania in 2000-2002;

The Romanian language test of the latest baccalaureate examination is presented in this article with all its' faults. The examination's fails of all kinds are pointed out: the punctuation mistakes the misquoting of Bacovia's texts, found on the examination sheet, the ambiguous questions' meaning on the characters in Marin Preda’s novel “Moromeţii”. These all stand for the lack of professionalism showed by the stuff responsible with the examination material. The author also disagrees with the marking system that allows the students to gather a minimal score at random.

Author(s): Ion D. Sîrbu / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 1/2019

Keywords: Ion D. Sîrbu; Notebook VII; inedit; letters; Toma Velici;

„Ion D. Sirbu’s idea of memories dates back, according to his owntestimony in 1979,when he decided that: „I will buy a tape recorder. I wish - because Ihave a special gift of oral storytelling, live speech of heart to heart confession – I wish [...]to „tell” (as in the park, pubs, cemetery) those memories that cannot be written becausethey were too lived!!”In 1980-81, Ion D. Sîrbu bought a tape recorder MAJAK 203 and recorded ontwo ORWO tapes, of 360 m, some of the memories (childhood, adolescence and theearly months of his student life in Sibiu). On June 7th, 1989, „urged by the ghosts of myinsomnia, I open a new notebook and start - for the first time - to write the story of mypoor life. I will not be concerned at all to be precise, the memory began to leave me, nordo I care about my life as reality but as a story: thought, dreamed, told dozens of timesand, especially, lived. „He wrote 75 pages, the latter probably before the end of the month, since, on 1st July,dictates to his wife a letter to David Prodan. The story line „breaks” the day he left for war.This fragment (ms., Pp. 23-28) and the three letters, all unique, we have included inthe volume: Ion D. Sirbu Latest ..., soon printed”. (Toma Velici)

Pavel Dan's Prose in the Context of Interwar Romanian Literature

Pavel Dan's Prose in the Context of Interwar Romanian Literature

Proza lui Pavel Dan în contextul literaturii române interbelice

Author(s): Iulian Boldea / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 22/2019

Keywords: prose; interwar; literature; archaic; mentality;

The rural world is, in Pavel Dan's prose, archaic and at the same time infused with elements of modern civilization and mentality. People live acutely uneasy and traumatic, are animated by metaphysical interrogations, summaries addressed to the transcendent, questioning the deep springs of existence, while myths, archaic rites and even religious institutions have limited operational coherence in the rural area, even if the members of the rural community constantly refer to them, because religiosity, mystical, ecstatic living, is ignored, superstitions have greater power. Rather than religion, the rituals are desacralized, taking place mechanically or even in a parodic key, so that the original senses undergo a symbolic mutation, they become providers of profane significance.
