Zasadniczo istnieją tylko dwa wyjaśnienia pochodzenia Wszechświata, życia i człowieka. naturalizm i nadnaturalizm. Wszystkie szczegółowe koncepcje są tylko odmianami tych dwu. Naturalizm to przekonanie, że materialna rzeczywistość jest wewnętrznie zwarta, że przyczyny zdarzeń i zjawisk przyrodniczych mieszczą się w samej przyrodzie. Naturalizm jest więc materializmem, a jeśli odróżnia się oba te pojęcia, to głównie dlatego, że naturalizm można pojmować metafizycznie (odpowiada wówczas na pytanie .co istnieje, co jest zasadę bytu?.) oraz metodologicznie (odpowiada wtedy na pytanie .jak uprawiać naukę?). Najbardziej znaną odmianą naturalizmu jest ewolucjonizm.Przeciwne stanowisko, nadnaturalizm, uważa, że dla pewnych zdarzeń i zjawisk nie da się znaleźć przyczyny przyrodniczego typu. Najbardziej znaną postacią nadnaturalizmu jest kreacjonizm . pogląd, że Wszechświat jako całość i pewne (nieliczne) układy i struktury wewnątrz niego są wynikiem projektu, zamysłu, zamiaru, celowego działania nadprzyrodzonego Stwórcy, który ingeruje bezpośrednio w bieg zdarzeń Wszechświata. Według kreacjonistów ingerencje te były ograniczone liczbowo, a wg niektórych także i czasowo. Ale wszyscy oni zgadzali się, że miały miejsce co najmniej trzy takie stwórcze ingerencje: przy pierwotnym stworzeniu Wszechświata, przy stworzeniu życia i przy stworzeniu człowieka.Kontrowersja ewolucjonizm-kreacjonizm może być ciekawa nie tylko dla biologa, ale także, a może nawet przede wszystkim, dla filozofa nauki. Dotyczy ona bowiem w dużym stopniu rozumienia naukowości, roli faktów empirycznych oraz czynników pozaempirycznych w ocenianiu propozycji teoretycznych. Żeby jednak takie zaawansowane sprawy analizować, trzeba dobrze znać rzeczywiste zajmowane stanowiska i głoszone poglądy. Z tym jest nienajlepiej, nawet w publikacjach specjalnie poświęconych wspomnianej problematyce.

Extortion racketeering has been long pointed out as the defining activity of organised crime. Although in recent years this crime has not been among the top listed organised crime threats in the strategic EU policy documents, it still remains ever present in European countries. The seriousness of the phenomenon has been recognised at the EU level and the crime has been listed in a number of EU legal acts in the field of police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters. The report Extortion racketeering in the EU: vulnerability factors analyses extortion racketeering forms and practices in six EU member states. The analysis disentangles the risk and the vulnerability factors for enterprises in two business sectors – agriculture and hospitality – as well as in the Chinese communities. Drawing on the results of the analysis, the report suggests new policies for tackling extortion racketeering in the EU. This report has been produced with the joint efforts of the Center for the Study of Democracy, Instituto de Ciencias Forenses y de la Seguridad – Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Transcrime – Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano and Vitosha Research and with the support of Guardia Civil in Spain.

Jednocześnie pozbawia złudzeń co do tego, że istnieje jedno remedium i możliwe są szybkie i zasadnicze przeobrażenia tego systemu. Charles Darwin: The founder of the theory of natural selection declared that he was a believer till 1859, when his well-known book The Origin of Species was published. After his death, in 1882, he was honoured by a burial in the Westminster Abbey. However, as his notes prove, he had never thought of betraying science for the sake of religious reasons. He had already written in 1838 that: “The great break in the organic chain between man and his nearest allies, which cannot be bridged over by any extinct or living species, has often been advanced as a grave objection to the belief that man is descended from some lower form; but this objection will not appear of much weight to those who, from general reasons, believe in the general principle of evolution”. This “great break” between men and animals, between Civilization and Natural Selection: this is what we shall make an effort to bridge over in this book.

This research paper examines a way of functioning of EU security system, using description, classification and explanation, with a special focus on transitional countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. This has resulted in understanding of achieving adequate foundation for establishing new relationships, under European transition and integration processes, between security authorities and social community institutions (citizens). The research confirms causal and consequential dependance and interconnection between internal political processes (of democratic development of society) and European integration processes, that is safety of citizens, under democratization of society and the emergence of new global security threats. Results of the research could be used to better understand setting up of efficient security institutions to counteract security threats in European accession processes.

Stosowaną psychologię rehabilitacji wyróżnia autorskie ujęcie problematyki. Decydują o tym trzy cechy książki.Po pierwsze, przedstawiona w niej wiedza psychologiczna, odnosząca się do osób niepełnosprawnych i ich rehabilitacji, skonfrontowana została z doświadczeniami praktycznymi autora książki. Wyniki tej konfrontacji spowodowały, że niektóre z powszechnie przyjmowanych zasad działania psychologów w obszarze rehabilitacji osób z zaburzeniami psychicznymi, urazami mózgu, przewlekłymi chorobami somatycznymi, widocznymi uszkodzeniami ciała są przez Stanisława Kowalika kontestowane.Po drugie, w książce przedstawiono wiele propozycji innego odczytania problemów doświadczanych przez osoby niepełnosprawne i pomocy psychologicznej w ich rozwiązywaniu. Przy czym autorowi nie chodziło o negowanie już istniejących praktyk rehabilitacyjnych, instytucjonalnie uznawanych za poprawne. Bardziej zależało mu na ukazaniu alternatywnych form pracy z osobami niepełnosprawnymi.Po trzecie, wiele z omówionych w książce propozycji pracy psychologa rehabilitacji nawiązuje do tradycji, gdy tworzony był ten dział psychologii stosowanej. Można ją określić jako okres zrównoważonego regulowania praktyki rehabilitacyjnej przez wiedzę naukową i ideały humanistyczne. Natomiast w obserwowanej obecnie sytuacji stopniowej dehumanizacji rehabilitacji, warto ciągle przypominać o tych ideałach, szczególnie gdy pracujemy z osobami niepełnosprawnymi.

The author deals with the subject of climbing, which is more and more popular sport, recreational and hobby activity. It is an activity that, compared to other physical activities, presents itself as an elite, dangerous and very demanding field, which additionally raises numerous ethical controversies due to the media coverage of Himalayan, Alpine and Tatra tragedies. At the same time, the described community of “mountain people” is a pretext here to show certain general phenomena and social processes that can be grasped by the theory of social worlds. The book presents the complex processes of creating and maintaining social worlds on the example of analyzing a specific social world – the world of climbing. Additionally, it presents effective methods of studying social worlds. The author used a whole set of analytical and research strategies – from ethnography, through autoethnography, elements of the biographical method, discourse analysis to netnography – all subordinated to the methodology of grounded theory, in order to fully describe the social world of climbers.

Having realized that, with the exception of cholent and flódni (a Jewish multilayered poppy-seed pastry), she knew nothing about Transylvanian Jewish cuisine, Kinga Júlia Király set out on a three-year project to fulfill her own cravings for authentic flavors—but, more profoundly, to learn about prewar recipes and customs and to find out what remained of kosher households in Northern Transylvania. She conducted some three hundred hours of participant-observer interviews, sometimes spiced with cooking sessions, with ten survivors who had experienced the Holocaust as teenagers or children. At the heart of Kinga Júlia Király’s work are the simplest things, the minutiae of everyday life. Tiny details, which, in the recording, are transformed into something of huge significance. She created handholds of remembrance for the last surviving members of a minority.

”L’impact de la politique de cohésion sur la convergence réelle en Roumanie” visait à produire une analyse de l'impact de l'intégration européenne sur la convergence réelle dans les États membres d'Europe orientale pendant la période de programmation 2007 -2013. À l'aide d'une combinaison de méthodes, techniques et logiciels dédiés, la recherche a inclus une série d'analyses des fonds structurels alloués aux régions de 3 pays d'Europe orientale (Pologne, Roumanie et Bulgarie), un inventaire des bonnes pratiques (le cas du Portugal considéré comme une réussite dans ce registre d’investigation), ainsi que des modèles statistiques pour les tests de convergence, qui visaient à mesurer l’effet des allocations sur la croissance économique régionale. Dans la dernière partie du document, nous avons analysé la perception sociale de l’intégration européenne et des politiques régionales dans le but de définir des mesures appropriées pour améliorer la gestion des programmes opérationnels régionaux. Les principaux éléments d’originalité du document sont les suivants: réaliser une analyse interdisciplinaire sur le thème de l’impact des fonds européens, période de référence 2007-2013, en utilisant une combinaison de méthodes statistiques et économétriques de test d’hypothèses, présentation des bonnes pratiques en matière de mise en oeuvre de projets régionaux qui peut être reproduit en Europe orientale, une analyse comparative (à la fois des séries chronologiques et qualitative à travers une analyse documentaire) entre les trois pays d’Europe de l’Est déjà mentionnés. À cela s’ajoute la possibilité d’enquêter sur l’impact des fonds en corrélant les indicateurs de programme avec les indicateurs d’Eurostat, ainsi que de tester la rapidité avec laquelle les États analysés peuvent atteindre la convergence. L’analyse de la perception des citoyens roumains sur la question de la politique de cohésion, grâce à l’application et à l’interprétation de plus de 400 questionnaires, dans les régions de Bucarest-Ilfov et du Nord-Est (qui présentent les plus grandes divergences), mais aussi la réalisation de 10 entretiens avec les bénéficiaires directs des projets régionaux et la création de mesures pertinentes en vue d'accroître la qualité de la performance institutionnelle des autorités de gestion afin de rendre la mise en oeuvre du Programme Opérationnel Régional plus efficace. Les principales conclusions de la recherche montrent qu'au niveau de l'Union européenne, les modèles appliqués aux données nationales montrent que le processus de2convergence entre les États membres de l'UE27 est en cours et que les divergences interrégionales se sont accentuées. Après les tests de convergence, cela se fera entre (le scénario pessimiste par rapport au scénario optimiste): 25 et 11 ans pour la Roumanie, entre 24 et 10 ans pour la Pologne et entre 37 et 19 ans pour la Bulgarie. Suite à l'interprétation des données de l'analyse de perception, la Roumanie a été un réel bénéficiaire de l'intégration européenne, avec un accès à des fonds non remboursables (y compris via le Programme Opérationnel Régional) offrant de nombreux avantages économiques, sociaux, culturels, touristiques, de développement des infrastructures etc. Bien que la question du manque de développement interrégional (mais également intrarégional) n'ait pas été résolue, elle ne l'a été que partiellement par le biais du programme opérationnel régional 2007-2013, ont été accomplis des progrès dans la réalisation de l'objectif de réduction des disparités de développement entre la Roumanie et les États membres de l'UE. Dans le même temps, il est important de noter que, même si les fonds structurels n’ont apporté aucune modification majeure, en l’absence de dotations européennes, les interventions auraient dû être effectuées exclusivement à partir de fonds publics nationaux. Une hypothèse potentielle pour les recherches futures pourrait être que les fonds structurels sont insuffisants pour générer un impact majeur sur la réduction des disparités régionales, la recherche permettant d'évaluer les progrès des régions bénéficiant d'une allocation plus importante pour soutenir les grands programmes de développement socio-économique.

A Small Lexikon of History and Culture in the Arab World

The lexicon is divided into four chapters. The first one is a detailed introduction, where we present a professional background of our topic, the significance of our research, the structure of our work, as well as the used literature and sources, in addition to an overview of the Arab-Hungarian relations. In the second and longest chapter, we portray biographies of the Arab personalities. In the third one, we examine the most important historical events in the Arab world, such as the Arab-Israeli wars, the nationalization of the Suez Canal, and the parallel crisis of 1956. In the last chapter, we briefly introduce concepts related to the stories and biographies found in the volume.Only a few results of Arabic historiography have been integrated into modern Hungarian research. Therefore, we consider it a priority to fill this gap. The aim of this work is to create a lexicon in which we gather – in the form of articles – the most eminent Arab personalities (approximately 1000), who were/are decisive in political, economic, military or even cultural life and others associated with the Arab world.

This book problematizes and critically analyzes how database are being conceived and what their relation is to knowledge production within the current settings of global capitalism, biopolitics and necropolitics, also in relation to digital paradigms. Database logic and aesthetics appear to be something that is imposed as a norm; its inclusion is visible in science, media, social networking, state governing, policy making, juridical processes, and military interventions, but also in a wider range of art practices, including contemporary presentation/exhibition models and forms. Simultaneously, we also recognize a forensic shift, the prevailing forensic methodology and aesthetics conducted through different forums, as for example that of international humanitarian politics, law and art. The book in front of us is also indispensable for discussing and thinking about the aftermath of the 1990s war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Excavated mass graves of Bosnians are now places open to forensics to speed up the processes of remembering past horrors of Srebrenica and genocide on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s territory.
