Yeniötesi Yazında Özkurmaca

Author(s): Ali Tilbe / Language(s): Turkish

Keywords: özkurmaca;yazın; toplumbilimi; postmodern; özyaşamöyküsü;

Author(s): Emre Eren Korkmaz / Language(s): Turkish

Keywords: public space; immigrant; worker; Germany; Turkish; union;

“The main function of traditional media is to provide timely information to the public, but today, traditional media cannot fulfill these expectations with regard to the fluid nature of global migration. New digital media technologies such social media have arisen to fill the void, narrating the lives of migrants in artistic terms that bear the traces of the major social issues of migration. In this critical anthology, contributors examine the intersection of migration, art, and media studies in order to critically analyse the impact of their confluence upon migrant and receiving communities.”Vildan Mahmutoğlu is Associate Professor at Galatasaray University, Istanbul. Critical Race Theory. Impact on Black Minority Ethnic Students within Higher Education

Author(s): Dilshad Sarwar / Language(s): English

Keywords: Black Minority; Critical Race Theory; curriculum; Dilshad Sarwar; education; Ethnic students; racism; students; universities;

This book is an attempt to address the notion of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and the underlying parallels with the experiences of Black Minority Ethnic Students (BMEs) under the guise of Widening Participation policies and practices within the realms of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The book attempts to explore and compare the post entry academic and social inclusion concepts for BME non-traditional students. The author carried out an extensive level of investigation through her PhD titled “Critical Race Theory A Phenomenological Approach to Black Minority Ethnic Students within Higher Education Institutions”. Moreover, the author within the PhD work identified the habitus structuring models and the academic and social constraints applied within HEIs. This book attempts to illustrate the impact of CRT upon the recruitment, retention, race and racism, learning and teaching themes which are embedded within HEIs. Citizenship and Naturalization Among Turkish Skilled Migrants

Author(s): Deniz Yetkin Aker / Language(s): English

Keywords: Canada; citizenship; Deniz Yetkin Aker; Germany; naturalization; skilled migrants; Turkish;

This study focuses on three main questions: What does citizenship mean for immigrants? Why do some immigrants decide to acquire host countries’ citizenship while others do not? Do citizenship and migration policies of countries (such as Canada and Germany) are related to the decision-making process of immigrants? More specifically, the objective of the study is to investigate high-skilled and business Turkish immigrants (HSBTI) who moved to Germany and Canada between 2000 and 2010. It is expected that immigrants’ naturalization decisions and conceptualization of citizenship are related to countries’ migration and citizenship policy approaches (such as restricted or multiculturalist). With respect to high-skilled and business Turkish immigrants, this study put forwards the view that host country citizenship and migration policy (whether it is restricted or multicultural); economic, social and political benefits and costs of host country’s citizenship; and individuals’ conceptualization of citizenship (as a sense of belonging or commodity) influence their naturalization decisions.This study focuses on three main questions: What does citizenship mean for immigrants? In his foreword to World Report on Violence and Health, published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2002, Nelson Mandela states that “the twentieth century will be remembered as a century marked by violence”. Now we are nearly at the end of the first quarter of the twenty-first century, but violence still permeates in our lives at various levels. Various forms of violence occurring at levels of interpersonal, self-directed, collective, state, warfare, child and youth violence, intimate partner violence, environmental violence, and animal violence lay bare the complexity and pervasiveness of the phenomenon, yet it also brings along the necessity to discuss violence from multiple perspectives. Nelson Mandela Dünya Sağlık Örgütü’nün 2002 yılında yayınladığı Şiddet ve Sağlık Hakkında Dünya Raporu’nun önsözünde “yirminci yüzyılın şiddetle mimlenen bir yüzyıl olarak hatırlanacağını” söyler. Bizler, neredeyse yirmi birinci yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinin sonlarını yaşamaktayız, ancak şiddet hayatımıza hala çeşitli düzeylerde nüfuz ediyor. Kişilerarası, öze yöneltilen, kolektif, devlet, savaş, çocuk ve genç şiddeti, yakın eş şiddeti, çevresel şiddet ve hayvan şiddeti gibi çeşitli düzlemlerde vuku bulan şiddet biçimleri olgunun karmaşıklığını ve yaygınlığını açıkça ortaya koymakla beraber şiddet kavramının farklı açılardan tartışılması gerekliliğini de ortaya koymaktadır

Why?”, was an interdisciplinary and international venue for academics, practitioners, and students to explore the idea of “measuring” migration” using a variety of methods from interdisciplinary perspectives. Participants explored the ethics and implications of what it means to track migratory flows and discussed when this might be appropriate and why these data are helpful/harmful. This conference was hosted in hybrid format online and in-person at the University of Oxford on June 9-10, 2022 (Oxford, England, UK) and was sponsored by MigrationOxford (previously known as the Migration and Mobility Network) and Nuffield College. There were over 300 participants registered from around the world, spanning six continents and dozens of institutions. Sometimes there are moments that are so dreamy that they take you through the streets of the city in the arms of magical imagination. Some dreams get caught on the hook of the imagination and stay there for centuries. Some wait on the gloomiest and foggy street of the city…In London, there’s a world most people could never even dream of. A city of ravens, fairies, angels, half raven half-human creatures, and the others…A Saturday morning that started on Portobello Road was also the beginning of a brand-new London for Mila. As she awakened, many unknowns were awakening above and below London. London was no longer the old London. People and Ravens too.London is always grey, but this was the most threatening grey she has ever seen!

Keywords: Literature Series; Text books; cultures; English Literature; Lingua franca; literature;

Literature is an essential unit of a culture and social, political and historical changes in a society impact both culture, language, and particularly, literature. Although there are various languages in the world, literature is the main communication that connects people from different cultures and countries. Literature: Lingua Franca of Cultures, thus, is designed to depict the similarities between different cultures within similar issues and topics. To meet this purpose, the book contains thirteen chapters, each of which was designed to clarify, exemplify and interpret a specific theme, underscored by remarkable authors from different cultures. Within this scope, each chapter respectively presents a topic: diseases, male gaze, children, intimate relations, antagonists or protagonists, human nature, war and depression, parenthood, death and suicide, God and religion, geography and human, revenge, and alienation. In each chapter, notable literary texts from different authors were analyzed to foreground the thematic and contextual similarities. This book, hence, provides readers different perspectives and interpretations to better internalize the common themes and messages of world classics. Although there are various studies of the remarkable senior academicians in the comparative literary field, hopefully, Literature: Lingua Franca of Cultures would contribute to this field both for the academicians and readers.

Halkla İlişkiler Perspektifinden Kültürlerarası İletişim

Author(s): Özgenur Reyhan Güler / Language(s): Turkish

Keywords: Management Series; Marketing and Sales; Textbooks; Turkish Series; Public relations; Intercultural Communication;

The Way of Taoism. For Bodily, Spiritual and Environmental Health

The Way of Taoism. For Bodily, Spiritual and Environmental Health

Author(s): Rod Giblett / Language(s): English

Keywords: Taoism; Tai Chi; Spirituality

For those who are looking for ways of living and being with the body, the mind/spirit and the earth that nurture the health of all three, this book presents Taoism as a path of triple cultivation. Drawing on the rich oral and textual traditions of Taoism, The Way of Taoism provides ways of living and being with the body and the earth that nurture the health of both in mutual spirituality and materiality. From the written tradition of Taoism, it brings together teaching about the Taoist body and Taoist ecology. It also draws on the living oral and scriptural tradition of the Taoist Tai Chi Society™/Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism™ that has a strong connection with Buddhism and Confucianism in the ‘three religions’ tradition.  It is the first book written by a member practitioner of this Society to bring all these aspects together.The Way of Taoism crosses the great divides and dualisms between mind and body, humans and ‘the environment,’ spirituality and materiality, east and west. It provides ways of nurturing bodily, spiritual/mental and ‘environ-mental’ health along the path of triple cultivation.  The Way of Taoism engages in cross-cultural dialogue between eastern and western culture, and in historical exchange between traditional and contemporary times. It argues against monotheism, makes a plea for polytheism and foregrounds Taoism as a polytheistic religion. It is a comprehensive guide to the way of Taoism.

Ecoaesthetics and Ecosophy in China

Ecoaesthetics and Ecosophy in China

Author(s): Cheng Xiangzhan / Language(s): English

Keywords: ecosophy; China; aesthetics; environmental humanities

Chinese ecoaesthetics, which originated in 1994, has developed theoretically over the last 30 years. This branch of aesthetics, which is “based on ecology” and to “transform aesthetically towards the era of ecological civilization,” uses ecological realism as its philosophical foundation and ecohumanism as its guiding principles. Its central aesthetic paradigm is known as the “body-mind-environment” model. Its main research object is “…ecological aesthetic appreciation,” an exploration of how to appreciate aesthetics and ecology through “ecological beauty.” Additionally, ecohumanism can be further improved by referring to principles of ecology and examining the aesthetic synergies between humans and the earth’s ecosystem. Ultimately, ecohumanism is not only a method to aid in survival in an ecological crisis, but to elevate the human condition through assuming ecological responsibilities and promoting ecological civilization, leading to a more valuable and meaningful life.The theme of this book, Ecosophy C, can be summarized as “Moving toward the Aesthetics of Eternal Engendering”. Its key phrase, “Creating life” corresponds to shengsheng (生生) in Chinese, literally implying a continuous cycle of reproduction. Philosophically, this concept translates to “eternal engendering”. In essence, ecoaesthetics is the pursuit of the endless cycling of bio-engendering, which is the main goal of ecoaesthetics.

Anthology of Turkish Science Fiction Stories

Anthology of Turkish Science Fiction Stories

Author(s): / Language(s): English

Keywords: Posthumanism Series; Science Fiction; Turkish Fiction in English; Anthology; non-western science fiction; stories; Turkish science fiction

Turkish science fiction dates back to the early years of the twentieth century and serious development has been seen ever since. The writers, who escaped from the darkness of the First World War and took refuge in utopian science fiction, added the excitement created by science and technology to their texts over time. Turkish writers, who followed the science fiction works from the West and made efforts for the development of this genre, produced very qualified works that could compete with their contemporaries at some points. However, due to some historical, social, and economic problems, it was not possible for these works to meet readers in the West. In this anthology, the works of Turkish science fiction writers are brought together for the first time in English. Contemporary science fiction writers have written short stories for this anthology. Hence, the resulting diversity of stories represents a contribution to science fiction literature. An important feature of the anthology is that it includes examples showing how science and technology are perceived philosophically by authors outside of Europe and America. Since literature is an indispensable resource to investigate the equivalent of science fiction, which was born with modernism, in “post-modern” societies. This anthology of Turkish science fiction will be an important Non-Western SF source for both science fiction readers and researchers.
