Euro-Facta

Euro-Facta

Euro-Facta

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

The purpose of the periodical is to promote interesting research works of young university employees who take upon the subject of European studies. It is therefore an attempt to present this subject through a broad spectrum of its aspects, from historical and political issues to social and cultural problems, and at the same time to ask the question about the source and attitude of European thinking. These two perspectives merge in one factual experience. The name of the periodical “Euro-Facta” contains two important words: Euro and Facta. The latter should be understood in relation to Latin as meaning “happenings” or “events”. Our intention is to promote works presenting Europe-related events and analyses. It appears that the broad meaning of this word opens new opportunities for studying new spheres of social life, which until now have remained outside scientific reflection.

Classica Cracoviensia

Classica Cracoviensia

Classica Cracoviensia

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

The annual “Classica Cracoviensia” was established in 1995 as the initiative of the then director of the Institute of Classical Philology of the Jagiellonian University, professor doctor reader Stanisław Stabryła. Starting from 1996, the function of the scientific editor has been continuously held by professor doctor reader Jerzy Styka. From the very beginning “Classica Cracoviensia” has been planned as a forum for scientific cooperation between the Institute of Classical Philology of the Jagiellonian University and European university centres developing studies of the antique Greek and Roman culture in its various forms – literary as well as socio-political, philosophical, religious, legal, artistic and obviously receptive – of influence on the modern European culture. Periodically organised conferences, collectively undertaken research projects, guest lectures, initiated new publishing series – these are a few examples of this cooperation, which has brought a significant contribution to the development of the studies of the Greek and Roman antiquity, but in the same degree brings people together and has its individual aspect in the work of unifying Europe. Through the presentation of research on various forms of the Greek and Roman culture, we are trying to reveal the processes which had shaped this culture, the complexity of civilizational transformation which had been taking place within it, we are trying to accentuate its universal character and the inspirational role in shaping of modern Europe. The assumed, very broad formula of this periodical supports intercultural and interdisciplinary research, which allows for a multifaceted and in-depth presentation of cultural phenomena and present in the antique world dialogue between cultures, teaches the respect for otherness and versatility of research methods, provides arguments for defending the heritage of antiquity in the modern world. “Classica Cracoviensia” is aimed mainly for the people of science as it serves the modern scientific progress and a broad exchange of opinions in the subject of the Greek and Roman antiquity. It is reflected in the linguistic form of the periodical, in which texts are published in congress languages, namely English, German, French and Italian (occasionally in Polish in case of issues in honorem alicuius, but even then always with a detailed summary in another language), commonly used in disciplines referring to antiquity. The next group of readers are the students of antique studies and everyone interested in the in-depth knowledge of the antique Greek and Roman culture. “Classica Cracoviensia” has already found its place in the scene of European scientific periodicals and its subsequent issues can be found in many university libraries of Europe and North America.

Politeja - Pismo Wydziału Studiów Międzynarodowych i Politycznych Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego

Frequency: 6 issues / Country: Poland

The attempt of the initiators of the periodical of the Department of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University under the ambiguous title „Politeja”, referring to both cultural and political aspect, has been to create a forum where the relation from the debate taking place would be followed by an attempt to present its full meaning for the forming, new, dynamically changing reality: the reality which requires a constant reflection on the traditional categories and methods used in social studies and the complex subject of international, political and cultural relations, which increase the importance of phenomena as complex as globalisation or inculturalisation. The periodical is issued by the Department of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University, which has gathered a set of scientists wonderfully prepared for taking upon such a reflection; it seems that in this very unit of the Jagiellonian University this reflection has found a forum perfectly prepared for an in-depth and thorough analysis of the phenomena presently significant in both cultural and political sphere, as it has joined two already long existing units with ones newly created, albeit in both cases with experienced researchers able to regard the same phenomena form different perspectives. Up to 2013 the journal has been published twice per year. From 2014 the frequency has changed to quarterly publication.

Lehahayer. Czasopismo poświęcone dziejom Ormian polskich

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

Sowiniec

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland

The Sowiniec biannual is an academic history journal, the main focus of which is the period of the last two centuries of the history of Poland, particularly the Polish struggle for independence. The many years of Poles' efforts to rebuild an independent Polish state were marked by a number of national uprisings and tremendous sacrifices, especially during the two World Wars. It is commonly accepted that the final Polish bid for independence was the "Solidarity" movement, which greatly contributed to the downfall of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe. The journal publishes dissertations, document analyses, memoirs and accounts, as well as reviews of historical works related to the above-mentioned issues. The journal's title is a reference to the mound built in Krakow atop Sowiniec Hill in the 1930s, in honour of Marshal Józef Piłsudski, the de facto founder of the reborn independent Polish state (1918). For many years, soil from battlefields and places of martyrdom of the Polish nation from the times of the struggle for freedom and independence of the homeland has been deposited at the foot of the mound. Up until this day, soil from more than a thousand battlefields and places of execution across the world has been deposited there. For this reason, the mound is called the "Grave of Graves", and constitutes a symbol of the Polish struggle for independence.

Frequency: 4 issues / Country: Poland

Starting from no. 19 (the first months of 2013) the series „Między Oryginałem a Przekładem” („Between Originals and Translations”) will become an international journal, appearing twice a year and publishing articles on all aspects of translation studies in English, French, Spanish and Polish. The journal will be edited and financed by the Faculty of Philology (Wydział Filologiczny) of the Jagiellonian University and the Faculty of Applied Linguistics (Wydział Lingwistyki Stosowanej) of the University of Warsaw, which is reflected in the new makeup of the Editorial Committee. The journal is to be indexed in the most important data bases concerning our discipline. It is also a candidate for the ERIH-INT2 list. The articles submitted for publication will be assessed by two independent reviewers (in the case of articles in languages other than Polish at least one of the reviewers will be affiliated at an institution situated outside the author’s country). We have adopted the so-called double-blind review process, i.e. the author and the reviewers do not know each other’s identity. Articles submitted must be previously unpublished, original papers on translation. They cannot be submitted at the same time to another journal. Detailed requirements are to be found here. In accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, ghostwriting protection will be used. Apart from original scholarly articles we intend to publish reviews of new publications in the field of translation studies and Polish translations of seminal texts in our discipline. Contributions to the new journal should preferably be made via e-mail (Word compatible format) to the Secretary of the Editorial Board. There are plans to make the contents of the journal additionally available on-line. However, we declare the paper version to be the original one.

Studies in Ancient Art and Civilization

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

Studies in Ancient Art and Civilization were created in 1991 as an irregular series which in the first place served as a forum for the presentation of the Jagiellonian University Institute of Archaeology and studies provided by its researchers. The series was originated by professor Joachim Śliwa, who was also its first Editor in Chief, and since 2010 this function has been fulfilled by professor Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka. Since vol. 10 (2007) SAAC has become a regular yearly periodical. Until present fifteen volumes have been published, among them two monographic studies (vols. 3 and 11, the latter being Pontika 2006 conference proceedings edited by E. Papuci-Władyka) and three volumes dedicated to distinguished researchers from our Institute on occasion of their jubilees (vols. 8 – professor Maria Ludwika Bernhard, 14 – professor Joachim Śliwa and 15 – professor Janusz A. Ostrowski). SAAC publishes papers in the fields of archaeology, art and civilization of ancient Egypt, the Near East, Greece and its colonies, Cyprus and Rome, as well as other, non-Mediterranean ancient civilizations, and also in history of archaeology, collecting of antiquities and reception of ancient culture in modern Europe. Special attention is being given to topics concerning predynastic and early-dynastic Egypt, the Greek and Roman periods in the Black Sea region, and archaeology of Cyprus, due to the excavations conducted by researchers from our Institute in these areas. Objects and artefacts from these excavations are being published in SAAC.

Krakowskie Pismo Kresowe

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

The aim of the periodical "Krakowskie Pismo Kresowe" has been a modern and interdisciplinary insight to the history of Poles in the Eastern parts of former Republic, which in Polish literature and historiography since the end of XVIII have been referred to as “Kresy”. In the last fifty years this topic has raised much controversy due to the difficult history of political and national transformations in the 20th century, often paid for by tragic life stories of people of various nationalities and religions. The emotions connected with these events and their sorrowful remembrance inherited through generations of citizens of each country often decided on the character of the subject literature. On the other hand, due to the reigning communist regime, this subject was often a forbidden topic and occasionally appearing papers on this subject were written according to the requirements of the obligatory at the time propagandistic and political thought. Due to the above mentioned facts, our publication, distancing itself from any hostile to scientific research ideologies and demands of the political character, would like to provide a scientific, distanced outlook on the “Kresy” –the “small fatherland” of many Poles, an element of the Polish culture, and finally a place where numerous nations have met and left their marks, contributing to the cultural uniqueness of many places in South-Eastern Europe.
