The main subject in the book is the creation of the world and humankind and the following Original sin, shaping the entire episode of the beginnings of human history. The specific concepts laid out on the basis of the core elements of the subject, evoke a peculiar and endless dialogue between broad cultural constructs – the mythological heritage, canonical Christianity, adjoining apocryphal literature and pagan folklore. The narrative corpora, which were simultaneously existing and known to the medieval and pre-modern reader or listener, preserve the ideas and beliefs about comogony and anthropogony inherited through the ages.

The collection contains reports presented at a scientific conference organized in November 2021 by the Faculty of Law at Plovdiv University "Paisii Hilendarski". The conference was dedicated to the topic of property relations in law. The reports include research from various branches of law - general theory of law, Roman law, civil law, contract law, property law, commercial law, administrative law, environmental law and criminal law. The reports analyze issues related to public and private property in Roman law; relations between partners in partnership organisations; protection of property rights in European and constitutional case law; issues related to labor relations; procedural issues of indirect (derivative) claims in insolvency proceedings. Another part of reports analyzes issues of administrative contracts and commercial deals; defence of successors and their reserved heritage parts; remote conclusion of sales contracts; as well as problems of copyright holders. The collection also includes research on the issues of subjective rights and their forms, as well as procedural issues that arise in the enforcement proceedings and the proceedings for contesting administrative acts before a court.

Hate Speech : Hate Discourse and the Attitude Toward the Other

The following collection of papers presents the results of the research project “Hate Speech - Hate Discourses and Attitudes Toward the Other”, funded by the Research Fund of the University of Plovdiv "Paisii Hilendarski" in the competition for "Young Scientists" projects in 2015-2016. The study sets itself the ambitious task of thematizing hate speech as a social phenomenon, which in different ways entails social actions of “doing” hate speech, and hence - (re)produces unequally distributed relations of power and domination over the Other. Our interest was provoked by the crisis, which escalated in Bulgarian society at the same time and which put on the agenda many acute problems related to otherness and diversity in the context of our coexistence “together”. Our initial premise is that the crisis in social interactions and in the ways of living in a shared world inevitably multiplies in the ways of discussing - explicitly or non-explicitly - the attitude towards the Other and the Different. Their negative practical formulation as unequal, stigmatized, dehumanized is reflected in discourse and discursive practices and underlies that "hater" speech, which we define as “hate speech”. In this way, the hater discourse problematizes the fundamental relationship “I - the Other”, constructing social oppositions and structuring positions of social exclusion and inequality.

The Traps of the City

This collection is the result of a conference on ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage: The Traps of the City‘ held in November 2021. The department of Ethnology and the ‘Center for the Study of Intangible Cultural Heritage‘ established under it were the organizers and hosts of this scientific forum. The Ethnology discipline at the ‘Paisii Hilendarski’ University of Plovdiv has a 30-year history, which is also associated with the development of specific research fields and the formation of the Plovdiv school in ethnology. The issues of the conference are based on the research tasks set by the specialists from the department of Ethnology during their work as a team in the national scientific program ‘Cultural-historical heritage, national memory and social development‘.The conference themed ‘Intangible cultural heritage: the traps of the city‘ was inspired by the specifics of a particular Plovdiv neighborhood called ‘Kapana‘ (‘The Trap’). Historically, it was the economic and commercial center of the city as an artisan quarter. ‘Kapana’ got its name because of the numerous shopping and craft streets where it was easy to get lost, but also to find unexpected spaces and people. It is a dynamic space that has gone through many transformations. As a result of local policies, Kapana is currently being developed as a district for creative industries. It is also transformed into a place where various contemporary forms of art and urban culture unfold, as well as a scene of various festivals and events.The theme of the conference points to a rethinking of the ‘traps‘ and directing the research gaze to these urban spaces, which on the one hand inherit historical and cultural layers, but on the other hand are also places of living legacies. The papers presented various theoretical, field and practical results of urban heritage research. The wealth of approaches and analyzes to urban heritage and memory also led to the thematic diversity of this collection.
