Short Description

Edited by critics in their 30s: Zoltán Ágoston, editor-in-chief, Boglárka Nagy and József Keresztesi, editors. In the late 70s and the early 80s “Jelenkor” became a well-known periodical all over the country and a highly appreciated forum of the modern Hungarian prose represented by Miklós Mészöly, Iván Mándy, Péter Nádas, Péter Esterházy and others. “Jelenkor Publishers” was founded within the periodical in 1989, however since 1993 its legal formation and activity have became independent from those of “Jelenkor”. The monthly periodical’s main objective is to reflect the current literary tendencies, but it also publishes essays by contemporary philosophers and works of fiction by the best authors today.
