Short Description
The scientific yearbook published by the Satu Mare County Museum, the journal Satu Mare. Studies and Communications, is among the earliest specialized publications to have appeared in Transylvania.
The first issue of the journal was published in 1969, under the supervision of Dr. Tiberiu Bader, who was serving as director of the institution at that time. The publication was subsequently continued, through remarkable efforts, by the institution’s other directors, including Viorica Ursu Bilț, Gheorghe Lazin, and, not least, Professor Doru Radosav, who led the Satu Mare Museum from 1977 to 1990.
The management’s commitment to the institution’s yearbook continued after 1990, despite entirely different financial circumstances, during the mandates of directors Ilie Sălceanu, Viorel Ciubotă, Felician Pop, and Liviu Marta.
Over time, the journal and other publications of the Satu Mare County Museum have included prominent cultural figures from Romania and abroad—members of academies, university professors, and distinguished researchers—who have brought considerable prestige to both the journal and our institution. Among the most notable names are: Pompiliu Teodor, Ioan-Aurel Pop, Doru Radosav, Ioniță G. Andron, Carol Koracsonyi, Nae Antonescu, Sever Dumitrașcu, Ladislau Gyémánt, Nicolae Bocșan, Viorel Faur, Dumitru Șandru, Gavril Ardelean, Susana Andea and Avram Andea, Vasile Vetișanu, Livia Bacâru, Toader Nicoară, Valeriu Florin Dobrinescu, Gheorghe Buzatu, Gheorghe Onișoru, Cornel Grad, Ioan Chindriș, Gheorghe Focșa, Ioan Stanciu, Marius Diaconescu, Vjaceslav Kotigorosko, Ignác Romsics, Péter Német, Sabin Luca, Béni Balogh, Dumitru Suciu, Stelian Mândruț, Ottmar Trașcă, and Vasile Ciobanu, among others.
Beginning in 2004, due to the journal’s development and the increasing number of published articles, it was decided to divide it into several series: Archaeology; History–Ethnography–Art; and Natural Sciences. The three series were published in separate volumes, each coordinated by specialists in the respective fields.
Today, after more than fifty years of active presence in the historiographical field, following the decision of the Administrative Council of the Satu Mare County Museum on 9 January 2024, the composition of the Editorial Board and the Scientific Board was established and approved, together with the appointment of the new leadership of the Scientific Board of the journal Satu Mare. Studies and Communications. Furthermore, it was decided that, starting in 2024, the three journals published by the Satu Mare County Museum would be merged into a single format under the title Satu Mare. Studies and Communications, thus returning to the journal’s original structure.
