Summary/Abstract: A brief review of recent studies on ethnicity/ethnic identity in cultural anthropology, based on Barth’s model, is given. Furthermore, a few problems concerning the application of the model, such as: the realization of an ethnic group and ethnic identity, the problem of definition related to inner-contradictions and ambiguousness of the notions of ethnicity and identity, and the problem of suitability using the terms ethnicity and identity in analysis, are being discussed.
