Summary/Abstract: This article offers a critical analysis of The Kaidash Family, a novella by the Ukrainian literary classic Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky. It challenges the conventional interpretation of the central conflict as merely socio-domestic. A structural analysis of the plot is conducted as a trajectory of a moral-domestic conflict. The narrative is dissected into a three-phase structure -exposition, climax, and resolution – repeated across distinct episodes. By examining the conflict through the lens of folk morality, the innovative study uncovers the novella’s deeper symbolic layers, particularly the symbolism of its ending, and elucidates the author’s insight into the moral causes behind the disintegration of the Kaidash family.
