Summary/Abstract: At the level of many European states, the defense systems have deficiencies in terms of recruitment and retention in the military system. A survey elaborated in 2014, conducted by the EUROMIL association highlighted some of the factors that determine these problems, elements that are also valid in our country. Given these aspects, this article suggests the implementation of an effective solution, applied by the Swedish state, namely selective military service. This model can also be implemented in the situation of the national defense of the Romanian state, having great long-term benefits.
