Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the topic of cultural codes, one of the most important concepts for linguocultural studies. Through cultural codes the interrelations between the systems of representations depicted in language, on the one hand, and the spheres of the material and mental world, on the other hand, are established. The English or Romanian/ Russian phraseology allow us to reveal both general and specific features in the symbolisation of the spheres of the universe by the linguistic consciousness. They also confirm the dynamic nature of linguistic stereotypes and symbols. This paper discusses the significance of idiomatic expressions in language.
