Summary/Abstract: In the teaching and learning of Spanish as a foreign language, it is not only necessary to develop communicative competences that allow students to communicate efficiently, but also other sets of skills that contribute to making learning and communication more effective. This article aims, on the one hand, to analyze theoretical aspects of intercultural competence; and on the other hand, to present strategies and teaching activities that stimulate the development of intercultural competence in the Spanish as a foreign language classroom.
