Summary/Abstract: Research on the emergence and spread of the phenomenon of ‘Spanglish’ allows us to identify three main types of units that can be related to this phenomenon: (1) lexical units taken simultaneously, within a sentence or phrase, from both Spanish and English; (2) semantic borrowings from English into Spanish; and (3) English lexical units that appear in Spanish discourse, having been previously adapted to the norms of the Spanish language. In the article, we aim to conduct a more in-depth study of this phenomenon, based on examples taken from everyday Central and South American discourse, while also referring to the linguistic situation in the territory of the Republic of Moldova, where a phenomenon similar to ‘Spanglish’ can be observed, namely ‘Rumaruso’ and ‘Rumañol’.
