Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the concept and results of previous research on Serbs in Budapest and its surroundings within the framework of projects of the Ethnographic Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Belgrade). It will primarily focus on two studies of ethnic identity, which the author herself conducted among Serbs in the village of Lowry (1989–1992) and in Budapest and four nearby settlements (1995–1998), or on two monographs that represent the most comprehensive results of these studies so far: Serbs in the village of Lowry in Hungary during the 20th century (1995) and (N)i ovde (n)i tamo: ethnic identity of Serbs in Hungary (2008). The paper discusses their goals and results, as well as some limitations and possible directions for further research.
