Summary/Abstract: In the present article I deal with the basic problems that a teacher faces when they correct the pronunciation of Bulgarian learners of Spanish. The algorithm I have adopted is based on D. Poch’s methodology (1999) whereby the errors made by learners of Spanish on a segmental and supra-segmental level are detected and thereafter theoretical models for analyzing them are applied (models based on the concepts such as phonological sieve, phonological deafness, Interlingual identification, Equivalent classification, Native Language Magnet Model). I analyze the similarities and differences of the phonetic and phonological systems of the two languages (Spanish and Bulgarian) and deduce activities that can be applied in the course of corrective phonetics teaching in order to overcome the interference of the native language (E1) on the foreign language (E2).
