Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the current state of early language learning and education. The author reviews some relevant issues raised in the most recent EU documents published in the fi eld. Among the challenges facing educators and specialists at the moment are the development and implementation of age-appropriate language teaching models using approaches which are scientifically proved and which enhance children’s second language acquisition as well as their overall development. It follows, then, that educational institutions should offer effective programmes for training qualified specialists in the field of early language teaching and preschool education.
