Summary/Abstract: Translation practice is an integral part of German studies at the University of Sarajevo. The complexity of the translation exercises increases from the first to the fifth academic year, as our students translate basic and advanced isolated sentences into German in the first year of the program, as well as legal texts in their fifth academic year. For the purpose of this study, we had students of all five years translate the same ten isolated compound sentences into German, in which systematic errors have been identified and analyzed. The aim of this study is, among other things, to determine the progress of our students. In addition, the analysis of the translation errors should show what kind of errors are still being produced by students of the third semester of the master's degree program. We assumed interference errors at different levels. The identified errors were classified into three main types: grammatical, orthographic and lexical errors. The analysis of the translation errors should not only be performed for the sake of the errors, but it should also reveal a useful comparative reflection on teaching and learning, that is, where to put or to shift the emphasis in our teaching approach.
