Summary/Abstract: Based on the results of a survey conducted using 1,194 questionnaires among the population of rural areas in Serbia during 2015/16, this collection provides insights into the availability of social services, the level of awareness about rights and services, and the satisfaction of users from rural areas. By analyzing gender and other social inequalities that affect different access opportunities to services, particularly vulnerable social groups are identified. Based on this, the collection offers a framework for creating new social programs that would adequately respond to the identified needs.

- Summary/Abstract:The quantitative phase of the research project on access to institutions of social support and protection of the population of rural areas of Serbia, with special reference to the specifics of the position of women and girls in rural areas, is confirmatory in nature. This means that the task of the last phase of the research project is to assess the importance of certain findings of the previous research phases on a representative sample. The previous, exploratory and explanatory phases included a desk analysis of the social protection and support system in Serbia, conducted in 2014 and 2015, and qualitative semi-structured in-depth interviews with members of the rural population, as well as with people whose daily work practices include providing support or assistance to people in need.

- Summary/Abstract:The target groups in need of support were selected from the results of the qualitative examination that preceded the quantitative phase of the research. The basic characteristic of these groups, which is at the same time a factor of their differentiation and which sets them apart from the general population, is that the interlocutors recognize them as sensitive. We conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with them in the previous phase of the research. Respondents had the task of evaluating, according to their own assessment, which of the groups shown in the questionnaire did or did not need additional support. The goal of the first part of the question is to differentiate those groups that are positioned as vulnerable in the mind of the respondent in relation to those that do not have such a status. The second part of the question deals with the possible types of support that are directed towards isolated groups.

- Summary/Abstract:In this paper, we will analyze the extent to which the rural population in Serbia is familiar with the existing rights and services of the social protection system and, broadly understood, social support, how much they rely on them, and how they evaluate those they have had experience with. The goal we had in front of us was to obtain a more detailed insight into how effective the system is in providing support to this specific population, based on data on information, needs and satisfaction of citizens from rural areas.

- Summary/Abstract:Interventions intended to achieve effectiveness in the field of social policies must be aimed at areas where the roots of inequality are formed. Gender inequalities within the family and household represent an area that is less permeable to more immediate interventions of institutional practices and policies, and thus constitutes an area of generation and reproduction of inequality. However, at the same time, the family and the household can also be areas of change in gender relations (Babović 2010: 302). Of course, shaping social structures and relationships is a far more complex process than the simple deterministic model offered. However, this does not absolve the makers of social policies of responsibility for not undertaking comprehensive and systematic efforts to change the conditions for the establishment and reproduction of gender inequalities in society.
