Summary/Abstract: The title of this book makes an important distinction between the old and new metaphors of the Internet. This is not a matter of dichotomously opposing one with the other, but of recognising the difference that separates the Web at the time of its 20th-century origins and the Web in the diverse and technologically advanced form it has today, in the third decade of the 21st century. Both reveal and confirm that the phenomenon of the Internet as a modern medium (which has been one of the key components of social life and elements of contemporary culture for several decades) has not only a current present-day state but also an ever-lengthening past, year-by-year becoming more layered. The author's thesis is that the metaphorical expressions of the Internet dealt with in this book are in fact nothing more than the most varied manifestations of the social discourse which has been going on for years and which is permanently revolving around the Web.
