Summary/Abstract: Contemporary theology of preaching clearly indicates the presence of the word of God in the proclamation of the Church and attributes to it saving efficacy. There are only differences in the way of justifying and interpreting these beliefs. However, three arguments seem to be the most convincing. The Homily is a place of Christ’s presence with all His deeds, because: it is an extension of God’s word proclaimed in the liturgy, through which it participates in His saving power; it is an integral part of the liturgical celebration, it means it is itself a liturgy, which by its very nature makes present the (paschal) mystery of Christ; being a liturgy, it is a space for the sanctifying action of Christ as the first Celebrant.
