Summary/Abstract: The article is focused on the activity Ion Preda (father) and Ionuț Preda (son), famous panpipe craftsmen from the Romanian space. The exceptional quality of their instruments, played by panpipe masters from all continents, is due to a whole series of innovations and new work techniques introduced in the panpipe manufacturing construction process, in particular, innovations related to the materials (wood) used and tuning. Also, Ion and Ionuț Preda are the authors of the electroacoustic panpipe, widely used today in the musical fields that need amplification. A special role in the technical perfection of the panpipe — a Romanian instrument with deep traditions in folk music — was also played by their collaboration with performers. The contribution of the craftsmen Ion and Ionut Preda to the art of making the panpipe is essential and determined the fulminant development of panpipe performing art in the 21st century.
