Summary/Abstract: The article reveals several aspects of the evolution of the panpipe performing art in the Republic of Moldova: on the onehand, they are closely related to the emergence and development of panpipe classes at the musical institutions of secondary andhigher education in the republic (which appeared in the 1970s) and, on the other hand, the process was marked by the appearanceof well known performers. This instrument with ancient origins was „rediscovered” in the second half of the twentieth century. Today the panpipe is a solo instrument with a very rich sonority, with an unmistakable timbre and advanced technical possibilities, in the Romanian space being included in the composition of traditional music bands and folklore orchestras, at thesame time asserting itself as a solo instrument in most various genres of music. This success was prepared and conditioned bothby the contribution of the panpipe builders, who substantially perfected the technical side of the instrument, and the panpipe teachers who laid the foundations of its study in specialized musical education.
