The Translation Process аs а Power Equilibrium between Different Cultures

Summary/Abstract: Cultural asymmetries between linguistic communities are also reflected in the translatology discourse. With the introduction of culture as text (Doris Bachmann-Medick), literary texts are understood as media of different cultures, which in turn reflects the translation process. This acts as an intermediary in intercultural communication between text and reader. Starting from the premise that the translation process is always a mixture of two or more cultures due to various cultural differences between the source text and the target text culture, this contribution primarily focuses on the (unstable) balance of power between different cultures, which is the translator of literary texts. Before this horizon, it is necessary to examine how literary texts of culturally more or less distant societies can be translated, understood or interpreted and made more accessible to the reader audience of a target language.
