Summary/Abstract: There are five syntaxic models which represent subordinate parts of sentence in the Arabic language and their definitions are based on their mutual comparison. The term by which subordinate parts are brought together is addition (al-faḍlatu), in contrast to the basis made up from the subject and the predicate (al-fā ʻilu i al-fi ʻlui, that is, al-mubtada’u and al-ḫabaru), or, to put it in a single term, al-ʻumdatu. This article reviews the most important characteristics of the appositive, whereby the main task is to highlight the syntaxic features of the attribute by following the principles of Arabic syntax and by searching for the equivalent functions in our language without an ambition to equalize the two terms. The goal of the article is to stress the importance of interpreting certain syntaxic features from the point of view of a concrete language and not on the basis of the principle of understanding it solely through translation. For this purpose, the article explains certain details by comparing semantic and syntaxic features of what is called “an-na ʻtu in” Arabic and “atribut” in Bosnian.
