Summary/Abstract: The African one-party states were predominantly formed at the beginning of sixties of the last century. This study concentrates on the description of one-party system's typology. The author on the basis of historical and political analysis of the African one-party system formulates three basic party types: one-party dictatorship, dominant party system and pre-dominant party system. First, the attention is given to the origin and development of the African one-party states since African independent period. The second part focuses on the theoretical characteristic of the three types of the one-party systems. The last part analyses concrete African political parties in Angola, Mozambique, Ghana, [vory Coast, Malawi and Gabon. A special attention is given to the origin of the parties, their ideology, functions, party structure, membership, decision-making and their policy in society. The author forms a hypothesis that African one-party system is not closed episode in African political life and that it is firm part of the post-independent and current development of the African states.
