Summary/Abstract: The object of the analysis in the present work is the problem of construction of time and space in the historical and biographical novels of A. Vinogradov (Three hues of time 1931, The Condemnation of Paganini 1936, The Story of Turgenev brothers 1932 and The black consul 1932). The result of the author’s observation is that the characteristic feature of the structure of time in the works of A. Vinogradov is: 1 the homogeneously formed perspective of the time of narration; 2 the division of the time in which the action takes place into time “segments” which follow each other chronologically and between which there are varying as, to their length, the passages of the “empty” time; 3 synchronic treatment of the time of action with actual, historical time which is constructed by the author through the proper selection of historical facts, the use of the narrator’s journalistic writings, presentation of the attitude of the heroes towards the historical and social reality surrounding them. The specific feature of the space constructed by Vinogradov is its openness, the space is on a large scale as far as its area is concerned and it is described in a detailed way in relation to actual reality. The above mentioned, undoubtedly traditional ways of constructing of space and time enrich the factographic and documentary structure of the works of A. Vinogradov. They intensify the authenticity of the historical and biographical contents in them and at the same time they are an evidence of artistic experimenting of the author in the current of the Soviet historical fiction of the 30s.
