Summary/Abstract: The towel belongs to the domain of decorative fabrics used inside the Romanian traditional dwelling, remarkable through semantic content and artistic skilfullness. Weaving towels has been, from the most remote past, a very important occupation among the home crafts. An overview of the Moldovan towels reveals their evident unity due to the presence of several common elements on the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova: functionality, form, morphologic structure and aesthetic function. At the same time, man knows a range of peculiar regional features regarding their local names, manufacturing technique, raw matter, chromatics and size. The present paper outlines representative stages in the perpetration of the ritual functions and significances of the towel, regarded in the context of the transformations from the nowadays society.
