Summary/Abstract: This paper presents a case study which highlights several constituent materials of the cultural item The Golden Book of the Celebration of the Unification, currently held by the National Museum of the Unification Alba Iulia. The item has been analysed using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, with a portable Bruker S1 Titan SP-type spectrometer. Investigations were carried out concerning the metallic elements on the book as well as a series of pigments and inks used in the production of painted miniatures, and respectively the book’s writing. A better understanding of the constituent materials of the cultural item represents a first step towards the selection of the most appropriate preventative conservation methodologies, which aim to preserve the item for the lengthiest time possible.
