Summary/Abstract: In this article the author discussed the process of assimilation of French borrowings in the Macedonian literary language from the point of view of the system of accentuation. In the Macedonian language accent is constant and falls on the third syllable from the end in the words of many syllables, and in one- or two-syllable words it falls on the initial sound. In French accent is also constant but it is oxytonical. In both languages accent performs a dolimitative function. The French borrowings in the Macedonian literary language in most cases retained the place of accent which falls on the final syllable of the word. It appears that accentual system of the Macedonian language is inclined to approve the words with an accent untypical of the Macedonian language.
