Effectiveness and Competiveness of Healthcare Systems in European Union States

Summary/Abstract: Healthcare system is a key sector of every economy, as it is of direct medical and socioeconomic interest to citizens. Simultaneously it is one of the most diverse sectors across countries, especially concerning its financing and effectiveness.The aim of this paper is to analyze the technical effectiveness and indirectly the competiveness of healthcare systems in European Union states. The research has been performed by utilizing an optimization method DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis). It enables the validation of the relative effectiveness of countries based on inputs and outputs of healthcare systems, as well as distinguishing the causes of possible uncompetitiveness.
