Summary/Abstract: There are many scientific studies that have dealt with the production of media content and tried to answer the question of what shapes media content. In this paper, the focus is placed on the hierarchy of influences model, which through analysis at five levels allows the identification of crucial concepts and the identification of links between different factors influencing the journalistic outputs. Although there are some ambiguities and inconsistencies around this model, it seems to be a significant framework that allows for the advancement of research efforts in the field of journalism. In this study, by providing examples of questions about journalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina we try to indicate possible directions for the development of research that would deepen the understanding of the relationship between society and the media.
