Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the question of what linguistic units can be labeled as Negative Polarity Items. It points to the fact that certain linguistic units often occur in negative contexts, and that this characteristic does not prove to be a sufficient argument to classify them as Negative Polarity Items, since the problem lies within those lexical units that can also occur in some positive contexts.
