Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to present the concept of an entrepreneurial universityand the limitations in its use. In the paper the hypothesis hat the difficulties in the implementation of the aforementioned concept may result from university managers’ management deficits functioning at the middle management level was adopted. The paper presents the results of pilot research which aim was to identify a competence profile of the departments managers . The diagnosed profile was compared with the competence model of the department managers. This allowed to identify a competence gap which may be a limitation for the implementation of the concept of entrepreneurial university.
