Labour migration of parents and children’s school results

Summary/Abstract: The school is a very important element in the life of a child at any age. During schoolage children feel responsible for their assigned homework and tasks ordered by the teacher. Sometimes, however, a child seems to lack proper motivation to carry out school duties, and the absent parent living abroad does not help either. Such situation might cause a backlog of school work, the lack of activity in the classroom, and consequently aversion to school, teachers and peers in the class. This situation can be experienced by the children staying in the country with one parent only for a long time or left with a temporary guardian during the departure of both parents from Poland. This problem is extremely important and still up to date, because, as the statistical data show, the number of Polish migrants is continuously increasing year by year, and many of them are mothers or fathers leaving their families in Poland and in them their offspring.  This article attempts to answer the question: what school results are achieved by the children experiencing the absence of parents at home as a result of their migration, and, what is especially interesting, whether the longer absence of parents affects school grades that children get and their relationships with their peers?
