Summary/Abstract: One of the most common sociological convictions is the Weber’s thesis about the genetic relationship between Protestantism and capitalism. The proliferation of this thesis at times leads to false premises as for instance the opinion that the capitalist social order has emerged from the Luther’s theology. The article aims to answer the question of Luther’s contribution to capitalism, it also shows the crucial theological aspects of the Luther’s teaching on economic order. Furthermore, it presents specific and widely spread views which considers capitalism in the religious perspective: that of Walter Benjamin and that of Max Weber.
