Summary/Abstract: There are just non-Muslim minorities in Turkey in the context of Lausanne Peace Treaty. Since 1925, the Bulgarians in Istanbul has benefitted from the minority provisions of the Lausanne Peace Treaty under the Protocol attached to the Treaty of Friendship and signed between Turkey and Bulgaria. However, the population consisting of about 500 people paved the way of being an ‘invisible community’ within Turkey's population of nearly 80 million. In this study, transitional historical process of Bulgarian minority, their legal status, institutional situation and problems faced by the Bulgarian minority living in Turkey are examined.
