The Museum Vision of the Future of Western Pomerania, from ‘the Homeland of Many’ to the Dialogue Centre ‘Breakthrough’

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the concepts of the exhibitions devoted to the contemporary history of Western Pomerania, which took place in the National Museum in Szczecin from 2002 till now. The four most important exhibitions have been analysed in a more detailed way; they exemplify the change in priorities and presentation methods of the history of the Region and the values around which the narrative of the exhibitions was created. The analysis indicates that there has been an evolution in the exhibition techniques and an increase of the role of museological education as a factor shaping the social memory of the past.
