Summary/Abstract: After the Second World War the population of Western Pomerania was nearly completely replaced by a new one. The Germans were displaced, and new settlers came from the area of pre-war Poland. Since the 1960s the migration processes, and especially the questions of se ttlement and integration, have been an object of interest for historians and other specialists. Publications dealing with a whole range of the problems of migration have been appearing since the 1960s, but because of a limited access to the sources and because of political factors many problems could not be treated at all or had to be treated in a biased way. The research limitations concerned the questions of displacing the German population and resettling the Ukrainian population within the action ‘Wisła’, as well as the questions of repatriation of the Polish population from the areas lost after the war in favour of the USSR. The publications of that time are mainly of factual character. The above mentioned limitations stopped influencing researchers after the year 1989. At the same time access to sources improved significantly, which resulted in a new wave of research on various groups of migrants, settlement and the processes of social integration. The displacement of the German population and the resettlement of the Polish population were treated again, this time on the basis of new sources. There appeared new publications which fulfilled the gap of knowledge concerning the displacement of the Ukrainian population and the migration of the Jewish population, as well as the migrations that took place in the 1950s. The latter problem is still to be treated in the proper way. The questions of social integration in the new territories have been constantly dealt with. The current publications concerning migration permit to get a full picture of the population changes in Western Pomerania in the 1940s and the 1950s; what is missing is a full monograph based on a wider selection of sources.
