Summary/Abstract: The enlargement of the European Union since 2004 has opened the opportunity of free movement of labour for the new EU member states of Eastern Europe. The sudden outflow of labour from the new member states rearranged the mobility in the EU. The article describes the expansion and structure of emigration according to age, gender and level of education. The reasons and peculiarities of the delayed Hungarian emigration and its labour market relevance will be presented in international comparison.
