Summary/Abstract: The size and composition of the population constitute a key prerequisite for the availability of human resources, and shifts in these dimensions have discernible implications for economic performance. Changes in population size are driven by a combination of demographic and migratory factors. This paper focuses on recent developments and investigates the extent to which migration has reshaped the working-age population across EU member states. Population dynamics are examined both in aggregate and by level of educational attainment, with particular emphasis on tertiary-educated individuals. Drawing on developments over the past decade, the analysis assesses the extent to which commonly assumed migration patterns can be observed in population change, specifically by disentangling the relative impact of immigration and emigration.
