Hungarian emigration and immigration perspectives – some economic considerations

Summary/Abstract: This article intends to create a framework for the fragmentary evidence concerning migratory flows from Hungary to the EU, as compared to the flow from CEE to Hungary, during the 1990s and after. It defines a set of (economic) indicators to estimate labour migration, such as wages and living standards, risks, regulations and personal networks. It proves that there is no serious evidence of the economic dangers of emigration following the enlargement of the European Union. A limited flow of rather short-term migration can, however, be expected. The immigration perspectives, on the other hand, are rather ambiguous.
