Summary/Abstract: On 17 May 2017, Directive (EU) 2017/853 of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Directive 91/477/EEC on control of the acquisition and possession of weapons was adopted. The paper presents the basic legal context of this standard with regard to the principles and objectives for which the European Union was founded.
